Uh oh. Maybe I should go back and recheck that - I cannot read read a 500+ page book right now. Ergh.
I am glad it ended up being good for you though - I love it when that happens!! Sometimes a narrator makes ALL the difference, good and bad!

Ohhhhhh I am so glad you said something. I went and listened to several books [along with this one] samples of him reading and its a NO for me too. Wow. And unfortunately he narrates Stuart Turton's other book [the 7 1/2 lives or something like that] so I guess I won't be reading that either. HOW annoying.

Yes, he did narrate The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and I couldn't listen to that one either. Blech. That book was CONFUSING. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as The Devil & the Dark Water.

Yeah, I know. I have NG, books to read BEFORE a NG book [I got a book I requested A G E S ago and there are three before it and then I got asked to review a book and there are S E V E N before it. I am out of my mind], and I am on a serious nonfiction kick; I could read only NF right now and be blissfully happy [though this book about Munchausen's is completely heartbreaking and my heart hurts]. I also need to write them all down or I lose track of where I am and then I just read willy-nilly. LOL

I am SO SO SO excited for The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper. It has been on my list since it came out [I was going to read it with my niece, but we aren't allowed to see them anymore so I am now reading it alone] and I am so glad to hear it is amazing. You should try the Lizzie Borden book I read this month - WOW!! It was so good.

We are pretty much homebodies and I listen to a ton of audiobooks so that helps when I am doing other things. I usually have three books going at once, two hours a day per book. I doubt I will be able to maintain this level of reading next year though. This has been a bit overwhelming.

Thankfully, not ALLLL the books I say I am currently reading are actually being read all at once; I just need to have them laid out so I know what is coming up next. That said, I DO usually have 4 books going at once and I will admit that sometimes it gets muddled, especially if I have a couple of cozies going at once [which is something I try very hard not to do - even then, I will wonder where a character is in a book and then realize that they don't actually belong IN that book. LOL] I find it best if I have 3 or 4 very different books going; it makes keeping track a lot easier.

This is why I used to never read more than one at a time, and even now I rarely have more than one novel going at once. Although sometimes depending on the combination I'll still get my novel mixed up with some short stories, or even with nonfiction (this much more rarely but if it's something with a narrative it can happen),

I used to have at least two books going at once, unless it was a long novel, but with NetGalley, it makes having more going at once than I ever did before. Since I have cut way back on my requesting, I am hoping I can go back to no more than three at once next year and then maybe I can also get caught up on some long neglected TV shows!

I hated Warlight. I got an ARC and I don't think I finished it. The English Patient was okay but I also had seen the movie first albeit years before I read the book.

I did not love The English Patient AT. ALL. What a complete waste of time [IMO]. I remember when I was done reading it and thinking "that's it? WTHECK?", and I have never revisited it in my head. It is like I completely forgot it the second I closed the book.

So far, I am not minding Warlight, but it is early on. We shall see. It IS better [for me] than TEP, so that is a bonus in my opinion.

** I had to use another library as the Neil Gaiman version is through the New York City Library System through SoundCloud and I wasn't about to make one new folder just for that, so I just used one of the other libraries I have a file for already.
