Aw thank you, hopefully it passes soon.

Your read look interesting!"

I didn't care much for it, unfortunately.

Bruce I just finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest a few days ago as well. I read it on audiobook. I did read it, or parts of it in high school. I thought I should reread it.

I agree with your review. I remember some things as being different in the book, as well as the narration. Films weren’t as big on voice narrators in those days.

Kay Vanantwerpen (kingofthelosingside) | 5 comments Just finished reading "The Last House on Needless Street." I had some pretty strong opinions about it, but I'll link to my article about it because those opinions can't be discussed without heavy spoilers.

Also read "Transmuted" by Eve Harms in like a day. The first two acts were basically a 2021 Kafka and had some really great body horror stuff. The ending was cartoonish and a little disappointing though. Didn't ruin the experience for me, but definitely kept me from making it one of my favorites.

Reading "White Smoke" now. I haven't read a lot of YA horror, but this one is pretty good so far. It's kind of nice to read something so breezy. Some kind of regular horror movie tropes so far, but I actually don't dislike that. I feel like a lot of the horror I've read tries really hard to be innovative and wanders away from the staples of the genre. Feels good to basically read a haunted house story.

Where the Footprints End High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, Volume I Folklore by Joshua Cutchin

There is a certain percentage of bigfoot-type entity encounters on record in wich the experience featured strange elements other than hairy, apelike hominids, like power failures, UFO sightings, and ESP.
Those type of reports interest me the most. I am pretty early in the (so far) two volume book, but while the author suggests Bigfoot researchers should be open minded towards extraordinary reports, they should also be careful about already closed paranormal belief systems, like "Bigfoot is a messenger from the Star People and here to help humanity". I think that is a huge plus to begin with...

Thank you for recommending Claymore Seb, I finished vol1 and 2 yesterday and got a good start on the 3rd. I think this was what I needed, really appreciate your recommendation. I was just calculating what buying all 27 volumes will cost me lol.

It's a mix of gothic horror with cyberpunk and somehow it works fabulously! It's truly unsettling. I couldn't help but ask myself some truly controversial questions throughout this horror trip...

It's a brainy read, yes, but it leaves you with a new mindset... Deffo check it out!

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I finished Murder on the Home Front: A True Story of Morgues, Murderers, and Mysteries During the London Blitz my impression... meh. But review will follow. I understand this was made into a BBC or Netflix series(can't remember which, to lazy to look it up :) ), was the series any good my, UK homies?

message 626: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments just starting The Ritual I have already seen the movie, but there is definitely some major plot differences. So far, so good on the book. The creep factor is pretty high. But all the horror has mostly been only hinted at. Who doesn't love a buddy road trip gone bad?

The Book of Accidents
Just started it, and pretty good though confusing thus far, but early on hit one of my biggest pet peeves. Family moves to new place, kid just meets some kids at school (nerds) he has stuff in common with and, WHAM, here come the jock bullies. Seriously, when are writers going to find something other than high school bullies for the overused trope.....

The Creature: Personal Experiences With Bigfoot

A comparatively obscure account of a scientist's interaction with a hairy hominid crature. I am not sure if the book was ever supposed to be a non-fictional true account in the first place... I think Loren Coleman and some of his colleague at least considered it to contain authentic information.
