A place to discuss books with the theme "People turning into animals" for our 2021 reading challenge.

Mary Catelli | 1135 comments Operation Chaos by Poul Anderson is a good one.

Or maybe this should go into Shapeshifter. Hmmm. . . .

Amanda | 257 comments Nordic Fauna is quite subtle with its metamorphoses. Beautiful writing.

It looks interesting!

Daughter of the Forest is the first thing that comes to my mind. Or a few others of Juliet Marillier's books (but, hmm, listing some of them may be considered spoiling), she seems to like this trope.

Oh of course! How could I have not thought about that wonderful book! It has been years since I read it, but you're right, it is perfect for this category!

It is one of my all-time favorites ;)

Other good books for this category are Someplace to Be Flying, Under My Skin by Charles de Lint. The later is the first in a YA series.

Amanda | 257 comments I've just read Nightbitch. I'd love to hear others' views on this book as it seems to be quite divisive. Not just in differences of opinion between readers, but my own reading of it ranged from 2* to 4* at different stages in the book.

That sounds really interesting. I put it on hold at the library.

I can't believe it took me this long to read this book! I've always admired Marillier's writing and imagination, but have only read her books when they came my way. This! Well, we ate suppers out of the freezer for two days running because I grudged every minute I couldn't spend reading it straight through!

That's a great book! I think its one of my favourites of hers! The rest in the series are pretty good too!

Daughters of the Forest is so lovely. I still haven't read the rest of the series!

I think I liked the second book even more than the first!

Echo North would also count for this category as well as Monsters as Heroes
