Trim 2021 – The Official Unofficial Challenge Thread
I had to DNF my #2 book The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It's just too slow, and boring, and I can see why this is the second oldest book on my TBR! Maybe if it was shorter. At 658 pages, it really needed to be a more interesting read.
I'm happy enough taking it off my TBR, so I'm counting this as a "win".

That was a DNF for me too-like you said, "it's gone" so that is a good thing!
Yup! The whole point of the challenge was to get these books tried and off our TBR. If there was anything to count, it would count.

I am reading it right now and really enjoying it. Totally agree thought - if you are not enjoying it, then don't finish and it is a win as it is off your tbr!

Ha! My January book is actually going to get read! It will be the first one since Oct or Nov. (or earlier) that I finish-Maybe this is the year I read them all!
Am I supposed to announce that I finished my #2 book, Ninth House? It was awesome.
I’m still 15% in. But I’m intrigued by ninth house.

But doesn't hit the monthly tag, grrrr... we'll see if I can get to this. A Brief History of Seven Killings will be a chonker and I am reading that for Feb with Theresa.
My #8 is Astrophysics for People in a Hurry which I have been wanting to read for ages, so I'm excited. Not exactly a family drama, though... I'm also currently reading my #2, Without You, There Is No Us: My Time with the Sons of North Korea's Elite, which I am enjoying so far!
My #8 is another double header making up for how behind I got in 2020. An odd coincidence, at time BnB was posting, I had my hand om both books as I searched methidically through my TBR Towers for 2 missing books! What are they you ask.

My 8 is Daughter of Time by Sarah Woodbury. No recollection what it's about, but I'm guessing it's historical fiction?

The Coates is a slow serious read but not long. I'm not sure Brief History will be all that slow. We'll soon see.
I'm very excited that my #8 is one of my very favorite books, The Sunne in Splendour. I have always wanted to reread it and couldn't wait for this number to be called. During the original Trim I had a chance to reread the first book of SKP's Welsh Princes Trilogy and last year was able to finish the final two. I still have one more reread on this year's Unofficial Trim for When Christ and His Saints Slept which will complete some my reads. But Sunne is my favorite!
I have the Lions of Fifth Avenue, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and that its a Buddy Read. Who is with me? I also have the Patriots at number 8 so that will happen between February and March.
Joanne, should we buddy read that over at epic fantasy? We where a few who read the first one.

Well, shoot! I was sure I'd checked my library before I listed all my books (when I first made the list 2 years ago). If "Daughter of Time" was avaliable at my library then, it isn't now.
I'm going to have to switch it.

My #8 is Salt Houses which will work for Family Drama but not enough tags for it to be a bonus on Fly the Skies.I've finished my January Trim, just need to do the review. I'm quite enjoying the international books while stuck at home.
My # 8 is Even in Paradise by Elizabeth Nunez ... a retelling of Shakespeare's King Lear, I was certain it would have the family drama tag. It does .... but only 1 person has so tagged it. (Very few people have tagged the book at all...)If someone wants to use it for Fly the Skies ... it IS tagged "Trinidad" by 5 people. (Though the country is correctly called Trinidad and Tobago.)
My No. 8 is Masques by Patricia Briggs. This has been on my physical bookshelf for a long time, so I'm happy to have it on deck for reading next month!
I have a 2 Trim lists, my #8 are A Farewell to Arms and This Tender Land.It just so happens that I started A Farewell to Arms a few days ago. This is a reread. I read it close to 50 years ago when I was in school, and I loved it so I kept it! The book cost my parents $1.65.

Joy - Fabulous Book! Sally, I am planning to read the Exiles in March for Fly! I even bought it for myself hardcover as a birthday present, also to support Wellesley Books. Kind of like a two in the basket kind of thing.
Ok, I've decided on my replacement for #8. Normally, I go with books that have been on my tbr longer. This one, I think I've had for 2 or 3 years, so not nearly as long as the majority of what I add to my Trim lists, but this is one that not many people have read, so it's likely never going to come up for me when I use tags to search to find what will fit monthly challenge themes. So, I will read it for this:
In the Mood for Peace: The Story of the Izzy Doll / Phyllis Wheaton
The author is someone I know.

Review: This story covers a pivotal year, 1938, in Katey Kontent's life when she is 25/26. She and a girlfriend Eve live at a ladies boarding house and have entry level jobs in NYC. Katey is a secretary for a law firm. Eve is determined to climb the social ladder and draws Katey along. They meet well-to-do handsome Tinker and move into a faster affluent crowd. Eventually they need to make some hard choices that change their life. I did not feel connected to many of the characters in this book and found the first 2/3 a slow go. Lots happens in the last third so it got better. However, still not as good as the author's Gentleman in Moscow.
I got my #2 read!! Yay!!! I'm off to a great start for the year!Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
