Ila wrote: "Good list Candi. I'm eager to see your other choices."Thank you, Ila! I'll be thinking about and posting the others before long :)
I'm familiar with a few of your choices and have been thinking about The Magnificent Ambersons for years. Enjoy!
What a great list, Candi! I've enjoyed most of these authors, and you should have a good year of reading.
Bob wrote: "I'm familiar with a few of your choices and have been thinking about The Magnificent Ambersons for years. Enjoy!"What a great list, Candi. I see you plan to read a roman dur by Simenon. I gave Dirty Snow 5 stars. Hope you love it.
The Magnificent Ambersons is brilliant and hilarious!
I look forward to reading your reviews on these.
Thanks, Bob and Connie! Looking forward to the coming year of reading :)Anne, I got the idea of Dirty Snow from you!! Can't wait to read it :)

Thank you!! Wishing you a Happy New Year too, Elena!!
Candi, I love this decade challenge. Books by some authors I enjoy that I haven’t read yet. Enjoy this. I agree, moderation is the best route so you don’t get overwhelmed.

I've finished a book which works for 2 of my buffet challenges:Challenge #4 - Members Choice Classic/Genre Challenge: 20th Century and
Challenge #5 - Decade/Century Challenge: 1980-1989
What We Talk About When We Talk About Love by Raymond CarverMy Review
Candi wrote: "I've finished a book which works for 2 of my buffet challenges:Glad you got a twofer out of these poems. You deserve them. :))
Thank you, Kathleen and Anne! I don't often get a twofer, so I'll take them when they come along! ;D
Congratulations Candi. I read the title story and loved it and I'm looking forward to more from him. Loved your review!
Finished another book which works for Challenge #4 - Members Choice Classic/Genre Challenge: Non-fiction:
Jane Austen by Carol ShieldsMy Review
Candi wrote: "Thank you, Anne! I don't read a lot of bios, so that's a bit of fun!"I don't read a lot of bios either, Candi. Making it even more of a coincidence. I happen to be reading yet another biography now, The Monk of Mokha, which was meant to be read for the non-fiction square for my Bingo challenge. I used Gabriel Byrne's bio for that. I do like bios if they are interesting. So far, so good.
I'm actually going to try to read some memoirs this year, Anne! One that is well done can be quite enjoyable! I'll be interested to keep up with your reading of any of them as well :)
Candi wrote: "I'm actually going to try to read some memoirs this year, Anne! One that is well done can be quite enjoyable! I'll be interested to keep up with your reading of any of them as well :)"Which ones do you have planned for this year?
Anne, these are the ones I'm considering:Wind, Sand and Stars
A Tramp Across the Continent
Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter
Life with Father
Just Kids
The Odd Woman and the City: A Memoir
Truth and Beauty
Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood
Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
Naturally, I won't get to all of these :D If I can get to maybe half of them, I'll be a happy reader!
Candi' some really great choices on your list. I can vouch for 2 and maybe 3. Odd Woman and Born a Crime were 5 star reads for me and favorites. Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter I read a while ago so it's not fresh in my mind, but I think you will like it a lot. Happy memoir reading this year! ;))
Thank you, Anne! I know Odd Woman landed on my list thanks to you! Do you have any other bios/memoirs lined up?
Candi wrote: "Thank you, Anne! I know Odd Woman landed on my list thanks to you! Do you have any other bios/memoirs lined up?"I'm changing my answer. I just remembered that I have Eat a Peach on my tbr. My library has it and I will read it once it is my turn.
I'm glad that you Odd Woman made your list. I think you'll love it.
Candi wrote: "It sounds wonderful, Anne! And our friend Charles has great taste!"Doesn't he? I've only been friends with him for a short time but every time he writes a review the book ends up on my tbr. :)) I will be reading/listening to Eat a Peach whenever it becomes available. at my library.
Candi wrote: "He's also caused me to head to Thriftbooks on occasion too, Anne :D"I'm sure I'm be heading to Thriftbooks or Abe's soon enough . So far my library has what I've needed, including the book he's reading now about the women artists. That one is also in my library queue.

This sounds like a really interesting read. I have now added it to my TBR. Thanks!

The Outermost House: A Year of Life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod by Henry BestonMy Review
Congratulations on another one down Candi! I loved your review of this and noticed that you read The Constant Gardner and had to read that one too as it's one of my favorite films. Great review on that too!
Sue wrote: "Congratulations on another one down Candi! I loved your review of this and noticed that you read The Constant Gardner and had to read that one too as it's one of my favorite films. Great review on ..."Thank you, Sue! The Constant Gardener will be a favorite of the year!
Anne wrote: "You are cruising along on your challenge, Candi. And clearly enjoying most of it."I am happy with my progress, Anne! Yes, I've found some wonderful books along the way :)
You are really clipping along on these. I'm so glad you loved A Constant Gardener. I am missing le Carre. :( Got to get back to him soon.
Yes, nice job on the challenge. The Constant Gardener sounds really good. Published in 2001, it just barely misses the cut off for group nomination, but I might think about it for a challenge book. I'm glad you have found books you liked.
Sara wrote: "You are really clipping along on these. I'm so glad you loved A Constant Gardener. When you're ready to read le Carre again, just give a shout. You know I'll join!
