Sarah B | 391 comments Elyse, I think you will love Painting with Metro! It's a wonderful story. 🏇

Yesterday I have read and finished The Autism Puzzle Connecting the Dots Between Environmental Toxins and Rising Autism Rates by Brita Belli which I had found very insightful. It's mostly about the dangers of chemicals, toxins, smoke from factories, hidden old garbage dumps, etc and what that stuff can do to your health.

I was stuck in meetings all day today but I have managed to read more of:

The Tommyknockers by Stephen King 64 % now
The Mare by Mary Gaitskill 21 %
Hopefully I can read more this evening and tomorrow. I only have one meeting tomorrow.

I'm really hoping that I can settle my brain enough to read- all of the things that I'm reading right now are so good that I should be flying through them... I'm just not :/

Since the week began I've only read one book City of Lies (Counterfeit Lady, #1) by Victoria Thompson on audio. I'm 41% through You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson and I haven't made progress in any other books. I started City of Secrets (Counterfeit Lady, #2) by Victoria Thompson on audio yesterday.

My dog hasn't improved this week, we think he had a stroke Sunday night that started it all and he's not recovering. We're putting him down tomorrow. :( So I may not be around much this weekend.

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 675 comments I haven't updated in a few days because I haven't finished a book, but I've been in the process of reading a few. I'm currently reading Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) by Marissa Meyer Fairest (Lunar Chronicles #3.5) by Marissa Meyer, A Study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes, #1) by Arthur Conan Doyle A Study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes #1) by Arthur Conan Doyle, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou's Autobiography, #1) by Maya Angelou I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. That last one is an audiobook read by the author, which I just started this morning.

Goodreads tells me I'm 1 behind on my goal, lol! But that's ok. It's always a lot of up and down.

Still working on A Splendid Ruin by Megan Chance. Slow going also, but intriguing. I'm 30% and will try to finish tonight or early tomorrow morning.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Elyse. Pets are family, and no matter how often it happens or how long you 'knew' it was coming you are never prepared to lose family. My condolences to you and your husband. Take whatever time you need; we'll still be here when it's the right time for you to come back.

Sarah B | 391 comments Thank you Reading Reindeer. My toe is a little better but the nail is still a funny looking purple. At least it doesn't hurt anymore.

So sorry about your dog, Elyse. It's always so painful to lose a pet. They really are part of the family.

Today I have finished The Tommyknockers by Stephen King and The Mare by Mary Gaitskill plus I read this old classic from 1940 Call It Courage by Armstrong Sperry ... Most of the time today was spent reading The Mare. Luckily I had only about 80 pages left of the Tommyknockers... It's such a huge book I need to think about it before I write a review but I definitely enjoyed it.

I really didn't like The Mare very much...I didn't like the message it sent.

And now tomorrow I'll have a huge heavy stack of books to return to the library! 😁📚📚📚 Plus I have new ones to pick up. And I have to decide what I will read next.

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 325 comments Welcome, Elyse and Sarah!

Yesterday i read for review Terror in the Shadows Vol. 12: Horror Short Stories Collection with Scary Ghosts, Paranormal & Supernatural Monsters.
Now it's on to It Happened in Silence which I promised to review this week, then i'd like to read an A.I. SF I just bought: Sentience: A Science Fiction Exploration of AI Through An Epic Turing Test - Book 1

Patricia, I wanted to love this book, but it was not a huge hit for me. There were parts that I really liked and were some that were just a little dull. Eeeek, I hate to say that about this well respected book.

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I'm done for the night, so it's time for the final tally.

Finished:
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (Blade Runner #1) by Philip K. Dick Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia What Unites Us Reflections on Patriotism by Dan Rather

In Progress:
A People's Future of the United States Speculative Fiction from 25 Extraordinary Writers by Victor LaValle 285 pages (70%)
First Blood by David Morrell 132 pages (46%)

Thanks for hosting a great readathon!

message 182: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments Today I have read The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead and Aliens The World's Leading Scientists on the Search for Extraterrestrial Life by Jim Al-Khalili .... I guess these are my last two books for the readathon.

I had liked the first book more, although it's sad and full of some awful violence.. apparently there really was a school like that..it's a group read in another group right now.

The second book I found rather dull..it's a bunch of science articles but although I tried to like them they are just on dull topics. Chapter 9 was the most interesting, on sci-fi books! 😅📚📚📚 But unless you like reading about single cell life and stuff...

message 183: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments So here is my readathon wrap up. I just made a list of all of the books I read during the readathon and I can't believe it: it's 21 books! 21 books in 2021! It just happened that way!!

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Well, I did not finish The Glass Gauntlet by Carter Roy (only read another 10 pages) but I did get The Inflammation Spectrum Find Your Food Triggers and Reset Your System by Will Cole finished, so yesterday wasn't a bust ;)

Wrap-up:

Completed:
The Inflammation Spectrum Find Your Food Triggers and Reset Your System by Will Cole , The Jabberwock (Nowhere, USA Book 1) by Ninie Hammon , Great Master Beethoven His Life and Music by Robert Greenberg , In the Shadow of Spindrift House by Mira Grant , The Fortuna Island Lagoon (Carthago, #1) by Christophe Bec ,
Mindfulness in Plain English by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana , Embers One Ojibway's Meditations by Richard Wagamese

Partial:
130 pages of The Glass Gauntlet by Carter Roy , 43 pages of Lobizona (Wolves of No World, #1) by Romina Garber , 25 pages of The Dragons, the Giant, the Women A Memoir by Wayétu Moore , 30 minutes of How Science Shapes Science Fiction by Charles L. Adler

Not my most prolific readathon ever but set out like that, I'm still pleased with my results :) Most of what I read was 3 stars and up, only one reread, several things outside of my usual genres, and everything fits into at least one prompt for my Flourish&Blott's reading challenge. Woot!

Meaghan (ectophine) | 48 comments I didn't end up finishing ACOTAR in time but I did get 248 pages done before the end of the readathong! That means my strong start was 4 books + 60% of another, though my finish was way less strong (only two books)
