So glad you mentioned Avogadro Corp, I enjoyed that one and now you've reminded me I need to finish the series!

Eight of my top 20 reads [though, I find when you read 200+ books, it is very difficult to have a top 20] were classics. I just finished Les Miserable and that is absolutely in my top 10, something I am absolutely gobsmacked about. So heartily applaud your return to more classics. I too am making a point of reading one every month next year. Now that I have the momentum, I am ready for more!

Dawn Michelle | 3485 comments Yesterday I finished:
The Noonday Friends - 5 Stars
The Magician's Elephant - 5 Stars
Rappaccini's Daughter - 3 Stars [though I will be revisiting this as a read read not a listen as the person who recommended it to me said its better that way]

I was supposed to finish The Plague, but got distracted by lists and YouTube. ;-) I will finish it today. I have also realized what a complete weirdo I am for loving a book that is about the plague. It is just so well-written and you just get sucked into the story. [Shrug]

I finished Les Misérables this morning and have severe book hangover. 5 glorious stars to that read. SO amazing. Unfortunately, I have other stuff to read, so I cannot wallow in my book hangover. Sigh. LOL

I started Night. Apparently, I am going to end 2020 on a depressing note.

message 105: by Annie (new)

Annie | 424 comments Ok, a couple of quick reads:

Finished: Wicked New Hampshire This was a Christmas gift and I loved it!

Finished: Letters From Father Christmas Had this one on my shelf from when my kids where young - had to pull it out and reread after seeing a few others mention it! Very fun!

Currently reading: The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle I won't finish this before midnight, but it feels like a great book to go into the new year with!

Annie | 424 comments Forgot one:

Finished: A Wealth of Pigeons: A Cartoon Collection Another Christmas book given to a family member but I couldn't resist reading it myself!

message 107: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 2180 comments I just finished The House on Abigail Lane by Kealan Patrick Burke with a few hours to spare!

message 108: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments Today I have read:

Dec 31: Golden Dream A Fuzzy Odyssey (Fuzzy Sapiens #5) by Ardath Mayhar

Dec 31: Off the Page (Between the Lines, #2) by Jodi Picoult

Read both of these today and finished the second book at 10 pm. Two hours to spare! And I have also now completed the popsugar challenge!

I've read 37 books this month. Which is a lot of books!

I have already picked out the first book I'll be reading for 2021. Has anyone else picked out a book?

Dang that's impressive! A great start!

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 675 comments Finished two more complete books, Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots and Werewolves Don't Go to Summer Camp. Also finished the three books I had in progress: Silent Night, This is How You Die: Stories of the Inscrutable, Infallible, Inescapable Machine of Death, and Dreams In Her Head.

So altogether so far I've finished 8 books, 5 of which I had started pre-read-a-thon. I just barely hit my Mount TBR goal! And hit my recently lowered Goodreads goal, with 127 total books in 2020.

I'll probably spend the 2021 portion of this read-a-thon trying to make a dent in my library book pile.

I nearly burnt myself out plowing through Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3) by Cassandra Clare yesterday and Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien . I also listened to Bella Bella by Harvey Fierstein A Mind of Her Own by Paula McLain The Messengers by Lindsay Joelle Can You Ever Forgive Me? Memoirs of a Literary Forger by Lee Israel Childhood, Interrupted by Sanjay Gupta The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey by James Lecesne . And ended 2020 with 311 books read.
Today I have continued listening to short audiobooks: Bluebird Memories A Journey Through Lyrics & Life by Common Dan Rather Stories of a Lifetime by Dan Rather Life Ever After by Carla Grauls The Year of Magical Thinking The Play by Joan Didion You Are (A Comedy) Special A Simple 15-Step Self-Help Guide to Forcibly Force Yourself to Write and Perform a Full Hour of Stand-up Comedy by Maria Bamford
Starting today using paperback, e-book, and audiobook, I am reading Les Misérables by Victor Hugo .
Logging off for the night and starting The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster .

It snowed last night and now it's ugly raining and cold and just all-around gross so today is a day for blankets, copious amounts of tea, and reading!
I plan on doing 50-page sprints all day: Les Misérables by Victor Hugo The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon Possession by Katie Lowe A Heartfelt Christmas Promise by Nancy Naigle
I already listened to Break Shot My First 21 Years by James Taylor

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia A People's Future of the United States Speculative Fiction from 25 Extraordinary Writers by Victor LaValle What Unites Us Reflections on Patriotism by Dan Rather

I started all three of these yesterday. The novel feels like it will be a pretty quick read (I'm already a third of the way through), so I'll definitely start and maybe even finish another during the readathon. The short story collection I plan to take my time with, one or two stories a day, so I probably won't finish that one. The audio will probably stretch most of the week, but it's due back next weekend, so I'll finish that out of necessity.

Good start to 2021!

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments I read Embers One Ojibway's Meditations by Richard Wagamese and listened to about 3 hours of Great Master Beethoven His Life and Music by Robert Greenberg . And then I "happened" to discover a list of books on sale on Amazon (ok it was a Book Riot post titled "New Year, New Book Deals" and took several non-accidental clicks to "happen"...) so I have officially added more books to my TBR than I have removed during this readathon. Happy New Year! lol

Sarah B | 391 comments I may have bought a bunch of books too this weekend...both from Amazon and from eBay. I do have an excuse though...my birthday is coming up and what else would a bookworm like me want (besides horses that is)? 😁🐎🐎🐎

How about HORSE BOOKS?? 😅

Plus in December I read at least one library book that I just loved and had to get my own copy!!

And oh gee, I was looking at the new popsugar challenge today and I found myself searching books in my apartment, setting certain ones aside that fit the prompts of the new challenges! 😱 And it's only Jan 2!

Plus I picked up yet MORE library books today for group reads! Including the The Tommyknockers by Stephen King and The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead

And yesterday I spent some time organizing my book categories on here and sorted out multiple pages of read books into the new categories.

I've already read 3 books today, going to see if I can read another. 😁

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments One weekend into the new year, and back to real life tomorrow. (I'm anticipating many struggles as I try to get a 5yo to understand that vacation time is over.)

I haven't finished anything yet, but I'm making good progress and, even better, I'm really enjoying all three of my selections!

Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia 203 pages (60%)
A People's Future of the United States Speculative Fiction from 25 Extraordinary Writers by Victor LaValle 62 pages (17%)
What Unites Us Reflections on Patriotism by Dan Rather 3:09:44 (45%)

message 133: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments I read 50 pages of The Glass Gauntlet by Carter Roy and finished a surprise reread of In the Shadow of Spindrift House by Mira Grant (I meant to just look up something to answer a question... but wound up rereading the whole thing. How do you not get sucked into Scooby-Doo meets The Haunting of Hill House meets H.P. Lovecraft? It was thoroughly enjoyable the second time around, too)

Sarah B | 391 comments I have finished these books:

Jan 1: The Shores of Another Sea (Classics of Modern Science Fiction 3) by Chad Oliver

Jan 2: A Distance to Death (Tink Elledge #2) by Holly Menino

Jan 2: The Clockwork Crow by Catherine Fisher

Jan 2: Grooks 1 (Grooks, #1) by Piet Hein

Jan 3: Dragon and Herdsman (Dragonback, #4) by Timothy Zahn

And I'm about 25 % through The Tommyknockers by Stephen King

I have injured my big toe today plus ended up with a big popped blister on my heel, so the next few days I'll have to stay off my feet. My toe really hurts just sitting here and the nail is discolored now. I just bruise so easily.

❤Marie Gentilcore (rachelx) | 99 comments Finished my first two books of 2021: Treasures by Belva Plain. 5/5. I love her writing, the dialogue makes me feel like I'm in a movie from the 1940's. Also finished The Family Journal by Carolyn Brown 3/5. It was good but a bit forgettable, seemed to be missing some spark and humor.

Started A Splendid Ruin which I won from Goodreads. On Chapter 2, it's intriguing so far. Also started The Lies We Told by Diane Chamberlain, another of my favorite authors. Will try hard to finish these by Jan 9.

Next, I think I may try Les Miserables by Victor Hugo since I see that a couple people on here enjoyed it. I own the audible version. 60 hours! Wow

25 pages of The Dragons, the Giant, the Women A Memoir by Wayétu Moore
25 pages of The Jabberwock (Nowhere, USA Book 1) by Ninie Hammon
40 pages of Lobizona (Wolves of No World, #1) by Romina Garber

Other progress:
A People's Future of the United States Speculative Fiction from 25 Extraordinary Writers by Victor LaValle 166 pages (42%)
What Unites Us Reflections on Patriotism by Dan Rather 4:56:14 (70%)

Sarah B | 391 comments I read and finished Painting with Metro How a Crippled Racehorse Rescued Himself (and Me) with a Paintbrush by Ron Krajewski today and I also read another 100 pages of The Tommyknockers by Stephen King which brings my progress near the 50% mark... There seems to be a lot of text per page in that King book so I often feel that one page in that one is like 2 pages in another book! But the story is so fascinating!

And I absolutely LOVED reading about Metro! 🏇
