I'm trying to remember the title of a story I read when i was a child (maybe mid to late 90s, but I'm not sure. I have no idea when it was published). It was about a young child, a girl I think, who was frightened every night by a skull that appeared on her bedroom wall every night, after the lights were turned off. She was the only one who ever saw it - her parents thought she was making it up - and she realised at the end that it was just the light shining in through the skull-shaped keyhole.

I think it was a chapter book, but I do remember it having illustrations. They reminded me of The Snowman, a picture book by Raymond Briggs.
