I think that you can make a new section - Reading challenges. Put this one there. And you can add one or two new challenges later on. One for comic book readers and one mini-challenge for people who don't like to commit for a year but still want to try something fun.
Any thoughts?

Rules:
1. Read at least 1 Star Wars book.
2. It can be from Legends or Disney continuity.
3. Books may count for more than 1 prompt.
Prompts:
1. Strength: however you define strength or a strong character pick a book with a character you deem strong.
2. Tear jerker: Pick a book that makes you cry or focuses on a tragic character.
3. Aliit: The Mando'a word for family, Pick a book that focuses on how the events of the Star Wars universe impacts a family, or a found family dynamic.

6. Artistically done: Pick a book about the making of Star Wars, the cultural impact of Star Wars, or a Star Wars book you'd deem a classic even if it wasn't part of the franchise.
7. Redemption: Pick a book that has redemption as a key theme.
8. Strategically or Tactically minded: Pick a book that actually pays attention to sound strategies and tactics in either the political or military arenas.
Very creative! Love it, Rebecca.
I see you're using Mando'a words as prompts.
The Mandalorian by Adam Christopher is coming out in November. It could be a great opportunity to roll out this Read-a-thon in September as a preparation for the new Mandalorian book. What do you think?

There can be more than one Read-a-thon a year. Why don't have one for March & April with Chiss related prompts?
I haven't read anything Thrawn related yet. So somebody more knowledgeable has to step in. ;)

Even if they change it, it doesn't matter - The Legends universe still exists (and will always exist). In my head-cannon EU and Disney continuity are just two alternate realities coexisting peacefuly beside each other.

Both sounds interesting. Or we could just do a Timothy Zahn oriented mini-challenge. He sure wrote enough SW books.

There a three sets of prompts. you may mix and match, complete a set, or do all the prompts.
Rules:
1. Read at least one book that has Thrawn as a main character or antagonist.
2. Books from Legends and Disney continuity count.
3. Books may count towards more than one prompt.
1st Set of Prompts: Admiral Thrawn acrostic.
1. Artistically done: Pick an Art of Star Wars book, Star Wars Propaganda, or a book on the art of war in Star Wars.
2. Desperate times call for desperate measures: Wether it's the hero and villain teaming up or a villain is an honorable man on the wrong side of history, read a book where characters find themselves unlikely allies.
3. Moriarty: Pick a Thrawn novel where at least one villain is the Moriarty to his Sherlock.
4. Intellect: Pick a book that shows off Thrawn's quick thinking, adaptability, and sound logic.
5. Reckless: Pick a book where characters see Thrawn as reckless because they just don't understand him or how he thinks.
6. Alienation: Pick a book that explores how alienated Thrawn can be from others wether amongst the Chiss or in the Empire.
7. Loyalty and Leadership: Pick a book that explores what makes an officer a good commanding officer and one men and women are loyal to.
8. Treason: Read a book that shows Thrawn dancing on the edge of Treason and what makes Treason Treason Treason.
9. Hero or Villain: Read a book that makes you question who the heroes and villains are.
10. Rebels: Pick s book set during 20BBY to The Battle of Endor that features Thrawn as either a main character or side character.
11. Ascendancy: Read any novel set in the Unknown Regions that explores the Chiss.
12. Warrior: Read Thrawn to explore his ideas on the way of the warrior.
13. New Republic Era: Read a book from the original Thrawn Trilogy: Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command.
The second set of prompts are inspired by the Chiss Family Ranks. These prompts are listed from highest rank to lowest rank.
1. Blood: Read at least one book from the original Thrawn trilogy: Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command.
2. Cousin: Read any other book or short stories by Zahn that focuses on Thrawn.
3. Ranking Distant: Read a book that focuses on the Chiss and or Thrawn that is not written by Zahn. This can include the middle grade series Clone Wars Secret Missions, The Dark Nest Trilogy, The Heir to the Empire Guide book, etc.
4. Trial-Born: Read Outbound Flight and then Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising.
5. Merit Adoptive: Read a nonfiction work or literary work Zahn said inspired how he wrote Thrawn. Historical figures he drew on were Erwin Rommel and Alexander the Great. I will also accept books by or about Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Even though he was not mentioned by Zahn as an inspiration for Thrawn, the two are uncannily similar in many ways. The main literary influence was Sherlock Holmes, so either a Sherlock Holmes mystery or a nonfiction book about Sherlock Holmes would also count.
I love your suggestions. I don’t understand the vast complexity of Chiss culture. I might try running a few challenges later. With it being Xmas Eve, I’m super busy wrapping presents. Got to go!
How about a challenge where you have to read a book or books with the Senate or political reasons are important? Or a Leia with a lightsaber book challenge?
Rebecca wrote: "I was thinking of seeing about coming up with a readathon for March and April leading up to Thrawn: Greater Good. I'll work on the prompts for that and we can work it in as a mini challenge."
i have only read a few new canon Thrawn books because my library doesn’t have them and I don’t have the cash to spend.

Rebecca, great job on the Chiss prompts. I especially love the second set. What a great idea with the books that inspired Zahn.

You see?! Challenges are fun. And I think that you need some group activities to grow the group. Especially with so small community you need something other than discussions (which are limited by small number of members) to attract new people - e.g. Book of the month (i.e. group read), buddy reads and challenges.
There is only a small number of active Star Wars reading GR groups ( that's a plus for you) - what made me hesitate before I joined was that you have no listed group reads - they appear in the groups search (on the main page) - something that catches your eye - an immediate sign that the group is at least semi active.
If you're interested I'd like to join as a co-mod.

I noticed that this was the only Legends centric group. I would love to have you as co-mod. I’m adding you now. I can create a secret group for us two mods.

Thanks, Akindle. You can add me. I'm looking forward to the collaboration. :)
Mod chat thread would be great.

I only have the one group read up and it is self paced to let busy people have enough time.

It doesn't work. It wants me to ask permission to join. And when I do it says: Sorry, that group is secret.

The thing is the group read doesn't close when the month is over. It is open for further discussion.
But there is an option - a new group read for - faster readers and people who weren't interested in the previous book.

Thanks for helping. Should we move this chat over to the private group. I think I sent u a link in the PM.

That would be really cool! I love Thrawn as a character but have just read the Thrawn trilogy and the canon novel Thrawn. I need to catch upon the canon novels before Thrawn: Greater Good, and would read just about any Legends book with him in it.

Something like this?

Prompts will be up for discussion.

We'll need 24 propts or preferably more so we can choose the best.
If you have any prompt ideas for a fun SW BINGO post them here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
We'll pick 24 best ones during January and post the BINGO as a February Monthly Challenge

Yeah, Rebecca, I thought about that. I'll need to make minor adjustments to some of the prompts to make them more inclusive. I'll get back to you about it before I post the challenge.
e.g. 4. Trial-Born: Read Outbound Flight and then Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising. - seems a bit restrictive especially when prompt #2 is Read any other book or short stories by Zahn that focuses on Thrawn.
I might change # 4 to Read any non Star Wars book by Timothy Zahn.
