I read this as a child, like 30-35 years ago. I’ve no idea when it was published. I had thought maybe it was a story about the Frances character in the books by the Hobans but I’ve scrolled through those and can’t find it. The animal character is, in my mind’s eye, something like the little badger creatures like the Frances stories. I remember something about the character maybe being unhappy about something and deciding to go to her underground burrow fort she made to get away maybe. She takes supplies and a bundle of stuff on a raft across the river. I remember the little burrow she made had a rug and things to make it homey. Any leads would be welcome.
