Unofficial Trim 2021 – The Fun Keeps Going

I think I got them all so far, and edited the list in number one! Just in case people want to add or switch things around to match.
Guess what? JoyD agreed to be our first number picker for January. But I want to wait till closer to the end of the month when it feels like our lists are more solidified, and to see who else joins us. She will pick her number choice at the time I post the new thread for the year, and she and I can coordinate that.

Jenni - at any time. But if you want to make a list now, and you don't have to read them, or read them as they come up, you can look at the list forming in number one, or match other people's lists to create a new buddy read if you like. Just pick any 12, and if you like you can number them to match other people. Let me know, or if I catch them - I will continually edit the top, so we know which Buddy reads are going to fly. The newly refined list of Buddy reads will be at the top of the official unofficial thread for Trim 2021, along with the picking list. We are just planning here, so I wanted there to be a separate thread when we are kicking off the start. Any questions, let me know, and I am happy to help. Even on the phone, to sort it out. I will make a personal concierge call.

@Jenni - I will say you might as well sign up and post your list because since it is not official you lose nothing by skipping a month or all. This year in 2020 for the challenge I think I only read 2 of the books picked because I got too busy with book clubs and whatnot. So there is really no pressure (except the pressure you put on yourself).

I did okay with this challenge this year. I'm on my 10th book from my list but few were read in the month they were picked. I'm going to revamp my list for this year but keep what I think is my remaining buddy read.

I tried my best to match numbers with others if there is overlap if there is interest in a buddy read. Trying to be better with those this year with PBT done.
1. The Reluctant Fundamentalist
2. Ghana Must Go*
3. Death Is Hard Work
4. Last Night in Nuuk

1. The Age of Innocence
2. [book:Ni..."
You've got some thick books on these lists! I enjoyed Brothers K and The Stand. And Cutting For Stone was my top read last year.

Thanks Amy, so exciting!! I added stars to my books that overlap with others.

1. And Then There Were None

4. A Burnable Book
5. The Cellist of Sarajevo
6. The Chatelet Apprentice

Jenny, you have some really interesting looking historical fiction on your list! The Lady and the Poet is on my Want To Read list, but I don't think it's on my actual shelves yet. I'll have to double-check. The Fatal Tree looks great, I'll need to look into that one a little more deeply.

Yea... the plan was to get some chunksters off my shelf and to stop being intimidated by them. Didn't get many thick books read in 2020... we'll see how 2021 goes.

I don't usually do buddy reads, so my list is all my own! :-)

9. The Brothers K
10. Crocodile on the Sandbank
11. Big Little Lies
12. Just Kids

One one side I'm trying to avoid "obligation reads" vs leaving mood reading.
On the other side, it's so fun to check the list, the number, and participate with the group!

I'm still #104 on the library hold list and I put it on hold in September. Will join if it comes in time.

Shelley and Charlotte - you both have Brothers K on your lists.
Shelley and JenK both have Stationary Shop, Shelley at 12, and Jen at 10, but Jen might want to switch to you, because you have joined the ever growing buddy read for Dream Daughter at #10.
I could swear I saw some of these on folk's list. Aperigon, 12 ways your phone, Book Woman, maybe This Tender Land. I know I saw all four of these, and possibly two more. But I just couldn't find them. We need more eagle eye help. But we are so far caught up on editing up through Shelley's list.....

1. The Age of Innocence
2. [book:Ni..."
@Charlotte, wow, you like big fat books, some of these are chunksters, esp The Stand. Hearts Invisible Furies is one of my all time top 10! Enjoy.

I can switch to #12, no problem.

Updated so Brothers K is at 9 where Shelly has it.
1. The Age of Innocence
2. Ninth House
3. - Already Read -
4. The Count of Monte Cristo
5. Nine Perfect Strangers
6. - Already Read -
7. Rebecca
8. A Bend in the Road
9. The Brothers K
10. The Night Circus

When we originally did Trim a couple of years ago there was a mini challenge for most pages read and I loaded my list up with chunky books that I already had on my shelf. Last year and this year I haven't added anything different from that original list. I didn't get most of the ones from last year read but still plan on trying to finish them as part of this year.
I have some short books I'm planning on reading this year so they should offset. And I've decided I'm listening to the 52 hours of the audible version of Count of Monte Cristo rather than read it.

1 - The Time Traveller's Wife
2 - The Silkworm
3 - Five Quarters of the Orange
4 - Манюня..."
Oh! Diane, some great picks! The Time Traveler's Wife (I love time travel books!) and the Great Alone are terrific.

1. Supreme Inequality: The Supreme Court's Fifty-Year Battle for a More Unjust America
2. Ninth House * (Amy, Meli, Charlotte)
3. Apeirogon
4. The Hate U Give
5. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
6. Hamnet
7. The Vanishing Half
8. A Farewell to Arms
9. The Brothers K (Charlotte)
10. The Dream Daughter * (Amy, JoyD)
11. All Systems Red
12. The Stationery Shop (Jen K)
1. The City We Became
2. Gold
3. 12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You (Sue #4)
4. Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park
5. The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek
6. This Is How You Lose the Time War
7. Nothing to See Here
8. This Tender Land
9. Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents
10. Crocodile on the Sandbank
11. Big Little Lies
12. Just Kids

Shelly - I'm happy to flip my list and put 12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You at number 3. And if you end up reading early, that's fine too. This will be the third year this book is on my Trim list, so I'm determined to read it - LOL!

Maybe #3 will get called in Jan and we can both read it for mental health!

I did accidentally read a couple of this year's list without them being drawn so will replace Thin Air and The Binding with others I want to read.
1. A Dog's Journey: Film Tie-In
2. Galápagos
3. The Fireman
4. Horns
5. Rise - The Complete Newsflesh Collection
6. The Hatching
7. Murder Beyond the Grave
8. NOS4A2
9. Picnic at Hanging Rock
10. Edgar Sawtelle
11. Dracula, the Un-Dead
12. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

So I may read a book in January that is on a number that isn't called. And I may delay the number called in February until August if that's when it fits my Fly the Skies plan.
So, while I may match up a couple of books with others who also want to read them, I may not be participating in buddy reads, if those books don't fall in the right order in re Fly the Skies.

BnB. It is starting to slow down - I welcome everyone's thoughts. I wrote to Kelly, and tried to write to Heather and Linda C who were also ass kickers in this challenge last year. But I couldn't find them. Is anyone friends with them who could shoot out a note? Jen just turned up (yay). Maybe see where we are on the 26th? Post the new thread the 27th, and let Joy announce it then? Other thoughts?

I have been doing the challenge this year but with teaching full time including 3 y12 courses, being marker/moderator for the exam board, trying to work on the new psychology curriculum for next year and the COVID crazies reading was all I could manage not updating. Next year looks to be just as busy too but I'll read along and just put the books on my TRIM shelf as I do them.
Looking forward to knocking some more off the TBR in 2021.

These are the ones left I swear could match up
Aperigon
This Tender Land
Vanishing Half...

I too am starting to notice a lot of interest in Aperigon. Which Nancy says takes us somewhere, I think in the Middle East. But I’m starting to think I should add it to my list as well.

Amy, I think that you would appreciate Aperigon. I would love to see your reaction to it.

Diana H - You and KateNZ have Beartown on the list, only you have it in number 7, and Kate in #1 - you should coordinate if you choose to. Also, American Marriage has a few readers already in position 1, and a few readers for Nine Perfect Strangers in position 5. You don't have to switch to read with these people, but you can if you want.
Kate - Also seems to want to read American Marriage, which has some readers already on it for position one - so if you like you can switch out Beartown to match Diana, and join them. Also, Clockmakers Daughter, which you have at 10, others are reading in position 12.
Charlotte and Joy - Joy has Weight of Ink at number 2, if you wish to coordinate. I definitely think you should put two new ones in the ones that the slots are empty - so you have them if the number gets called. OK -I am about to update the top list. Let me know, and let me know if I missed anything. Everyone's eyes will help....
