@Robin I wouldn't mind buddy reading it because it's quite short! But it depends when you have in mind to read it. I don't think there's enough interest in the series to have it as our readathon, either that or I just don't feel like it would be a good series readathon for us all. (Also I said Sunny before thinking that was the 2nd book, whoops I meant Patina😂)

Tiffany (justadream_away) | 124 comments @Kadi P No worries; it happens! I'm good for now. Maybe after I've checked some off then I'll ask for suggestions for the others if I still haven't found anything to fill those categories. Thanks :)

Virginia (lunarlet) I would participate in this, but I don't have enough books on my TBR lol

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Jessica some awesome choices there! Me Before You is so good, it made me cry! I hope you enjoy it too.

@Virginia you could choose from any books then if you like, it doesn’t have to be books already on your TBR. Just whatever you’d like to read that fulfils the tasks then go for it! That’s what the August mg reading challenge is going to be like so this is a good prepper for that if you end up taking part in that later on in the year.

message 62: by A Robin Reads (new)

A Robin Reads (arobinreads) @Virginia Wow, that's... I envy you haha. Great that you don't have a lot on your TBR

@Bella some awesome choices there! And you’ve already finished 3, nice going👏🏻 Words On Fire is also one of my challenge choices! We could buddy read it if you like, it’s up to you of course! I was thinking of reading it in April because my book for this challenge for next month is The Poet X and I’m liking reading 1 book a month for this challenge. It keeps the momentum going pretty well

message 66: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (justadream_away) | 124 comments I just updated my original post on this thread. I've finished three of the books already!

@Lynn congrats! You're just blazing through this challenge! Also I saw "wrestling team" and I didn't expect the next words to be "real tearjerker". My interest is piqued! I'm going to check and see what this book is about!

I'd heard nothing about this book. I just stumbled across it and checked it out. It is such an emotional story.

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments Just finished my 6th book in this challenge - Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant by Elise Bryant. Cute love story about a girl who is a writer and suffers from writers' block, but then does everything wrong to get out of it.

It was definitely an interesting read but really not what I expected.

Next month I'm planning to take a break from reading for this challenge so I can focus on my coursework and exam prep but I'm hoping to read Lost and Found in May!

message 74: by A Robin Reads (new)

message 75: by A Robin Reads (new)

A Robin Reads (arobinreads) Update:

I have finished 3 books for this challenge.

5. Read a book from the contemporary genre
I read: Red, White & Royal Blue

9. Read a poetry book or a book written in verse
I read: The Poet X

10. Read a middle grade

For number 6: read a book set during a war

Tiffany (justadream_away) | 124 comments I finished two more books for this challenge in March!

4. Five Things About Ava Andrews by Margaret Dilloway

@Hedda yep here's the directory page: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... and from there you can find all the separate pages for each genre. Feel free to leave recommendations of your own too if you like!

We also have the Reader Recommends events which showcases 7 recommendations from certain group members each month, maybe check them out: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
The majority of the recs there are mg books but there are some adult and ya books too.

Ilsen | 516 comments 1. Read the 46th book on your TBR shelf: This Lullaby
2. Read a book with a red cover: Dear Haiti, Love Alaine completed on 2/23/22
3. Read a book written by an African-American author: The Year of the Witching completed on 1/24/21
4. Read a book with a major character that has a life-threatening disease/illness: A Monster Calls completed on 8/18/21
5. Read a book that belongs to the contemporary genre: The Astonishing Color of After completed on 2/10/21

9. Read a poetry book or a novel in verse: Blood Water Paint
10. Read a middle grade book: The Screaming Staircase completed on 2/1/21

So technically I completed the book with a red cover but I really want to try to complete it with books that I want to read and not books I'm reading for school. But I think I am doing somewhat well. Even though I'm late to posting this.

Spens (Sphynx Reads) (sphynxreads) | 152 comments Hi friends! I thought I'd put up an update on my progress for this challenge. :) (After all, I've decided to finish this before joining any other readathons.)

1. Read the 46th book on your TBR shelf. : The Diary of a Young Girl
2. Read a book with a red cover. : Fahrenheit 451
3. Read a book written by an African-American author. : The Hate U Give
4. Read a book with a major character that has a life-threatening disease/illness. : A Walk to Remember
5. Read a book that belongs to the contemporary genre. : Waiting for Fitz
6. Read a book set during a war. : The Kite Runner
7. Read a book set in Europe. : Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Currently reading
8. Read a book in which the main character plays a sport. : We Dream of Space by Erin Entrada Kelly
9. Read a poetry book or a book written as a novel-in-verse. : Memories by Lang Leav
10. Read a middle grade book. : The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo

Glad to say only Waiting for Fitz was disappointing so far!

@Spencer aah no it's sad to hear you didn't like that book, it had such a beautiful cover! Reminds me of Impossible Music. It has such a beautiful cover but it was so awful. It took me literal months to read because it was that bad and it caused a huge reading slump last year. It too taught me the virtues of DNFing instead of subjecting yourself to the torture of reading an awful book!

I'd kind of completely forgotten about this challenge so thanks for reminding me! Now I'm planning to read Brainwashed next month...

message 90: by Spens (new)

Spens (Sphynx Reads) (sphynxreads) | 152 comments Hi friends! I haven't been active on here lately but I finished the challenge!!

1. Read the 46th book on your TBR shelf. : The Diary of a Young Girl
2. Read a book with a red cover. : Fahrenheit 451
3. Read a book written by an African-American author. : The Hate U Give
4. Read a book with a major character that has a life-threatening disease/illness. : A Walk to Remember
5. Read a book that belongs to the contemporary genre. : Waiting for Fitz
6. Read a book set during a war. : The Kite Runner
7. Read a book set in Europe. : Pride and Prejudice
8. Read a book in which the main character plays a sport. : We Dream of Space
9. Read a poetry book or a book written as a novel-in-verse. : Memories
10. Read a middle grade book. : The Magician's Elephant

General thoughts are: I should've checked the trigger warnings for The Kite Runner because I was not expecting so many terrible things happening there but I liked it still. I didn't enjoy Pride and Prejudice although I didn't hate it either. Loved We Dream of Space and Memories! Liked The Magician's Elephant. :))

@Spencer wow and congratulations! That's so awesome, you've finished!! I haven't even read half of mine😂 I'm halfway through The Colossus Rises. I'm not enjoying it but now I'm halfway through it I don't want to DNF it, I've spent too much time reading it.

I actually have heard that The Kite Runner has triggering content even though I haven't read it myself. You chose a lot of adult contemporary books! So out of all of them how many did you like and how many did you not?

message 92: by Spens (new)

Spens (Sphynx Reads) (sphynxreads) | 152 comments I have been reading a lot of adult lately! I miss MG so much so gonna try to do that for the rest of the year. I think I liked 8 and disliked 2 (Waiting for Fitz and Pride & Prejudice) which is a total win! I'm super hesitant to even add Colossus Rises to my TBR because I've heard mixed reviews, but I might give it a shot in the future.

message 93: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (justadream_away) | 124 comments I've finished two more books for this challenge, so now I have three left!

I read Get a Grip, Vivy Cohen! for #8 (main character plays a sport) and Starfish for #9 (novel in verse). Both were really good!

I still need to read the 46th book on my TBR, a book with a red cover, and one set during a war.

@Tiffany great job! Only 3 left wow! When did you start reading for this challenge?

It's been quite a few months since I was last on here but I've been making progress!

Update on my TBR Challenge:
1. Read the 46th book on your TBR shelf. - Enclave
2. Read a book with a red cover. - Urban Outlaws
3. Read a book written by an African-American author. - Pig-Heart Boy
4. Read a book with a major character that has a life-threatening disease/illness. - The Colossus Rises
5. Read a book that belongs to the contemporary genre. - Holes
6. Read a book set during a war. - Words on Fire
7. Read a book set in Europe. - Brainwashed
8. Read a book in which the main character plays a sport. - Sidetracked
9. Read a poetry book or a book written as a novel-in-verse. - The Poet X
10. Read a middle grade book. - Greetings from Witness Protection!

That's 5 books down, 5 to go!
I started reading The Colossus Rises a couple of months back and reached just about the halfway point before I DNFed it. It was a total slog but no way am I giving up after reading that much so I'm hoping to pick it back up soon and finish it, if only to give it a really awful rating and review.

I recently finished Holes (3 stars) and Brainwashed (2 stars) during the August Reading Challenge but I didn't really enjoy either of them.

I've not done a good job at spacing out these books over the months but I do really want to finish this challenge before the year ends so I need to crack on with it already! Next I'll be reading Pig-Heart Boy and hopefully I'll enjoy it more than my 2 previous reads...

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments I've done them all except for the book set during a war and the 46th book on my TBR (saving this one for last because it changes as I read other books).
