Dom and I had to reread a few of our series for that very same problem. I hope we finish one of them this month but we are pretty slammed in buddy reads to be able to finish both series that we had to reread.
Hi Cherie, I noted your likes for a few books I've put on my TBR list. When I'm considering whether to try a book, and I see that you have read it and loved it, that's good enough for me and on my list it goes. :)

It is strange, that I am almost done with this second Clifton Chronicle book, and I still have no recall of what happened in the first story. As much as Harry is the MC of the series, he has been in this second story very little. Only the first couple of chapters and now, it has turned back to him at 80% of the story done. I thought I owned the first book in hard copy, but I think I may have given it away. I own #2 and #3 as ebook on my Nook. Maybe I can get the first book from the library and give it a quick review before I start book #3.
I finished Conquered by a Highlander for the monthly challenge. I am declaring Children of the Mist by Paula Quinn killed.
Definitely not a "clean romance" series if you are considering them (only four books in this series, but the author has several more along the same lines.) Some goose bump generating sex scenes in each of the stories and the covers are eye catching. I listened to all four books, narrated by Carrington MacDuffie. She has a nice Scottish accent for her highlander characters.
I finished The Sins of the Father the second Clifton Chronicles book last night. Before starting the third book, I checked my library and downloaded the first book in the series to refresh my memory. I am listening to the audiobook. I have been listening all day today. I really enjoy the narration! I’m at 69% done. I was looking up a book in my daughter’s Kindle library and discovered that Only Time Will Tell was on there, so I can follow along with the text if I want to.
I finished the reread/listen to of the first Clifton Chronicles book. I am up to speed now and ready to read book #3 for my next museum read. I’m back In Botswana with Mma Ramotswe. #20 is for my “published in 2019” task in my museum challenge list and another orphan read for the The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series.
I finished To the Land of Long Lost Friends. On more left to read before he publishes another one. I am starting Best Kept Secret and Winterkeep today. Both are for my museum challenge. "Secret" for M1, Collection - which will finish my first museum and the Winterkeep, with the waves on the cover for M4, Collection. This is an orphan to the Graceling series, which I killed last year.
Okay - Jeffrey Archer is pissing me off. Seriously - three cliffhangers in a row? I finished Best Kept Secret last night. I could see the cliffhanger coming for some time, but really??? Unless I find another task for the 4th book, it will be a while until I get back to the Clifton Chronicles.I started listening to the audiobook of In the Woods but I switched to the text copy and I stayed up all night last night reading it. The Dublin Murder Squad is definitely going onto my list next!
Have you read a book for Museum 20/Collection ("archer" in the title, author's name or a character who is one)? Author Jeffrey Archer. The 4th book would qualify for that.

If it does not work out - I will probably get the Archer book from the library. I could use The Witch's Boy for next months group read too, since it is about witches.
I finished Winterkeep - the latest in the Graceling Realm. If this is the last one, it is okay, but if the author is going to write more, I will definitely look forward to reading them. I killed the series last year, so this was an orphan.I really enjoyed it and the series.
For some reason, I had removed Odd Thomas from my series list. I put it back on - I really need to read the last three books, especially as my book list shows that I own the fifth one, Odd Apocalypse, in print and there are only two more after that. I doubt that I will do a re-read for the previous four books, but I could....
I just saw a library notice in my in-box that Written in My Own Heart's Blood - audiobook, was available for me now.I will download it, but not start it until I finish The Murmur of Bees. I want to listen to The Consuming Fire then too!
Just because I decided to start listening to The Consuming Fire yesterday, I got another notice that another audiobook is ready to be downloaded. Now, I have Written in My Own Heart's Blood and An Extravagant Death both downloaded and waiting.
I finished The Consuming Fire while I was working this afternoon. I really cannot figure out how the author is going to wrap up this series in one more book, but I am still looking forward to listening to Will Wheaton narrate it. I started listening to An Extravagant Death. This is another orphan read. Charles is in the US. I was hoping it would be set in New York City, but he is investigating the death of a young socialite in Newport, R.I. A millionaire sent a special train for him to divert him on his way to Boston.
I finished the latest Charles Lenox Mysteries audiobook, An Extravagant Death. Now, I have to wait for the next one again. I hope there will be more.
I started listening to Written in My Own Heart's Blood. I hope I can finish it before it expires. It took forever to get it. I have a hardcopy text to refer to this time. I cannot believe how heavy it is. It weighs at least 10 pounds! I cracked up when Natty Bumppo came alive in chapter 11! He told Lord John Gray that the soldiers called him Hawkeye.
Natty Bumppo is a classic character written by James Fenimore Cooper in his Leatherstocking Tales. I discovered him in my high school library, in The Deerslayer. Most people know him better from The Last of the Mohicans. Here is the link to the books.

I am still listening to Written in My Own Heart's Blood. I am about half way through now. I read Gilead for my toppler book but did not finish it on time. Regardless, I am adding the 4 book series to my list. I really enjoyed it and will look forward to reading the next one, which I own.
I have finished listening to Written in My Own Heart's Blood this evening. It was due to expire back to the library tomorrow. Announcing: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is finished!
Officially there are only 8 books in the series until the next book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone is published November 23rd 2021. It will go to the orphan list for me - when I get to it.
I listened to the first book in the series in May of 2015.
I see you have some of the Discworld books on your series list. Do you read them according to subseries listings (Death, Witches....) or did you start out reading the first one, thinking you'd just plow through them all? I've had The Color of Magic on my kindle since 2013 and haven't read it yet. You know I'm not afraid of a loooong series so 41 books isn't scary to me, but I'm just curious how to attack it.
I read the first two books in the whole series many years ago and really never cared for them. Then, I read Mort for a challenge and became more interested. It was not until the series challenge that I knew that there were sub series among them. I started plugging away on the Death series first. Then, I read some of the Men at Arms (Guards! Guards!) books and the young witch’s series after the first adult Witch’s book. I completed Moist Van whatever his name is, and then Tiffany Aching.I have a spreadsheet with all of the sub series listed and all of the book titles to keep track of them.
I started reading The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax today for a museum challenge task. There are 14 books in the series. This first book was originally published in 1966. It has been on my 1st-in-series-to-read list since 2014.
I have been reading, just not posting. I finished reading The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax. She definitely goes onto the list. I need to update the first page.
I also finished the first book in a series called Ambassador by Patty Jansen. I was totally sucked into the story. I am sure I bought the book, Seeing Red for a challenge a three or four years ago. I think there are 10 books so far. The MC is Cory Wilson.
I downloaded an Audible recommendation called Murder on Black Swan Lane. I have finished the second book and am currently listening to the third. I am not enamored with the narrator, but I like the characters and the murder stories have been interesting. Wrexford & Sloane by Andrea Penrosewill go onto the list. I need to update my spreadsheet for titles.
Lets see - who else?? Oh, John Charming. I enjoyed Charming. Pax Arcana by Elliott James will go onto the list too.
I am still mushing through Kafka on the Shore. Glad it is NOT a series book. I just started Blood Safari for a museum task (set in South Africa. This is the first book in the series called Lemmur by Deon Meyer. I've owned the book for over five years. Only two books in this series, but the author has at least three others. I will not hold my breath for the 3rd book. :o)

Cherie, you are really not selling Kafka on the Shore. Do I invest my time with it?
LOL, Shirley! I should not have said mushing. More like wading. I put it down and have to make myself pick it back up. It was very interesting in the beginning. I get caught up in it and then want to put it down. Every turn introduces some something unexpected. It is kind of slow reading for me. I am reading a paper text. The writing is fine, very intelligent. The characters don’t feel human but the way he treats them, makes them seem ok. It is like the book cover. STRANGE. It is my first time reading him. I WILL finish it but I would rather be reading something else. Maybe I will feel differently by the end. IDK.
I have a couple of Murakami books on my tbr, even tried to get into them at one point. Failed. Strange is a good word. Sometimes an author is just not for me. I feel the same way about Cloud Atlas. I own a copy, have tried to read it, can't. Maybe some day I'll try again. Maybe not.

Roz - I agree. I have found that there are some authors that are just not for me, but I have to at least try them - once. Re: Cloud Atlas. I remember the group read or buddy read we had. I was a little behind but I just could not understand what was going on in the story. Everyone else was loving it and I just felt it was bunk. There were PARTS that I thought were good. But for the whole story, I could not pull it together. It made me mad. I wanted to get it. Honestly - I had to read it over about three times before I decided that it made any sense. It didn’t get any five stars from me but he has written other books that I really loved.
Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone, at least in the Cloud Atlas issue. Sometimes I see everyone (or at least a lot of people) giving 5 stars, loving a book and I also think it's "bunk". I start to think there must be something wrong with me, why can't I get it. If I have to read a book multiple times to get through to the end, it isn't for me. No shame.

On another note, I cannot believe how much I am liking this #1 Lemmer story Blood Safari).
I have had it on my Nook for over five years. When the author talks about the unbearable heat and humidity, I can feel my body temperature raise. 🥵
I bought the 2nd Lemmer book called Trackers but this will not go on my series list. I am still going by the YLTO series definition of " three books make a series", although I am still waiting for that Patrick guy to publish his 3rd book.I am adding the Andrea Penrose series Wrexford and Sloane to the list though. I have been listing to them from Audible. I am currently on #3 and have downloaded #4. #5 is not published until Sept of 2021, so I probably will not kill it off until I read the last one.
I cannot bring myself to add The Friday Night Knitting Club series (only three books) to my list. I am not all that interested.
I finished the 4th Wrexford and Sloane book, Murder at Queen's Landing yesterday. I decided not to wait for the 5th book to be published in Sept before killing off the series. Who knows when I will get to it? Wrexford and Sloane is killed.I finished the 2nd Three Pines - Chief Inspector Gamache story early this morning, A Fatal Grace. I could not put it down until it was finished.
I read the first book in the Friday Night Knitting Club series several years ago and wasn't impressed enough to continue either. I did check out the Gamache books and I'm going to read the first in the series soon. Sounds good. What's one more series?
I am really disappointed in myself about the first Gamache book. I read it in 2018, I think, but I really have no recollection of the first story - with a few exceptions. There are quite a few references about things that happened in the first story that did not ring any bells at all though. I am pretty sure I gave the first book away, since I cannot find it on my book shelf. I am going to see if my library has it to borrow. I want to see what I cannot remember! I also get the feeling that there is an on-going "something" to a past case that came up too. I really need to stop diving into these series books and get more of my stand alone books read.
That's good to know. I read the first book a number of years back and would like to continue the series someday. I think I'll need a reread of the first book. I do remember bits and pieces, but I doubt that's enough.
I’m not particularly a series book reader. I usually get bored with the sameness after a while. Having said that, I did read the Neopolitan series by Elena Ferrante one after the other, and would read them again. Do you usually finish a whole series once you’ve started?
As you can see from my huge list, Shirley, the answer is no. Finishing a series depends totally on availability and time. It also depends on the characters. It can also depend on the book cost if they are not available from the library. The Wrexford and Sloane books just happened to all be available from Audible and I was in the right mood to use the credits and spend the time listening. They also fit tasks on my museum challenge. It also depends on what series books are available from the library. If you hit on a series that no one else seems to be reading or listening to at the same time, they can go quite quickly.
You sure have a lot to keep track of.
I finished the fourth Clifton Chronicles book today, Be Careful What You Wish For. It was a little drawn out in places and ended in the typical cliff hanger. I have the next book in the series on hold at my library.
I started listening to the newest Murderbot audiobook this evening. I almost missed the library notice that it was available. It took weeks to get it. It is called Fugitive Telemetry It was only five files, so it is much shorter than the last book. Same Murderbot though. ❤️edited: I killed off The Murderbot Diaries on Oct 12th, 2020, so this one is indeed an orphan.
I downloaded and finished the latest Maisie Dobbs series book, The Consequences of Fear in two days. I read this one as an orphan, since I killed off the series a book or two ago. The timeline is up to 1941 and Pearl Harbor has just been bombed at the end of the story. Maisie has come a long way since I met her in the early 1900s. She had just come to work as a servant (at 13) for Lady Rowan and Lord Julian.
I have had the third Rampart Trilogy book on hold from my library for the last couple of months. The audiobook for The Fall of Koli became available today. I would like to have the ebook to read along with it, but it is not available yet. I have downloaded it and I will start it after I finish the Murderbot story. My granddaughter has been listening with me.
My granddaughter and I finished listening to the latest Murderbot book, Fugitive Telemetry last evening, while we at dinner and watched the wildlife at a park near our house. The story leaves hope that there will be more from Martha Wells. She has a great imagination!Another orphan wrap.
I started listening to The Fall of Koli early this morning. I got in a couple more chapters at lunch time. I absolutely love the audiobook narrators, Saffron Coomber and Theo Solomon and the voices they use for the characters! I was lucky to get the ebook at the same time and am following along at times. I am really interested in where this story is going to go, since it is the last book in the trilogy.

I finished The Fall of Koli this morning. The Ramparts Trilogy is killed! Another one off of my list today, but I am feeling bereft. I have no audiobook to listen to now.
Janice - I do not think you liked the first one as much as I did although I think you liked Mr. Carey's imaginative landscape.
This last book was quite long, compared to the first and second, but it was well wrapped up. I do not remember the first and second books having a dual narrator, but the last one does. I am sure you must have had the audio speed hiked way up, because Koli spoke very slowly, but I really, really liked it. It was worth waiting almost three months to get it from my library.
