My memories of this book are pretty fuzzy. It had pictures I think, in the end the donkey (or was it a mule?) brings home a collection of items from the ocean, one of them being a conch shell that lets her father hear the sound of the waves.

Bringing the Sea Back Home by Lucy Lawrence. There's no description on the Goodreads page but I found a Spanish-language version, Un Regalo del Mar, on archive.org and it does seem to match your description.
