Simon Beresford | 6 comments A bear (certain it was a polar bear) lives in a house with other animals & I think a boy. I owned the book in the 90's for certain and possibly the 80's as well. It was my favourite book but cannot find it online anywhere (can't remember the title). I want to buy this book to read to my nephews & nieces so any help is hugely appreciated.
At one point in the book they make a slide out of things lying around and have lots of fun.

Simon, do they make a slide outside or in the house?

Is this a short picture book or children's chapter book?

Can you describe the illustrations - e.g., simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or picture book author?

Simon Beresford | 6 comments Hi Kris, thanks a lot for responding.
It was a hardcover illustrated book which I think was roughly A4 in size (pretty big).
They make the slide inside the house and I think they end up crashing into the wall or fireplace so put down pillows or cushions.
I think the slide was made with a sheet (bed sheet) or a blanket.
They similar illustrations to those found in an old bear stories book if memory serves correctly. They weren't watercolours - they were very clear.
Thanks again for helping me. I would love to get this book to read to my nephews / nieces.

Is this a British picture book?

Simon Beresford | 6 comments I think so Kris.

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments Maybe something by Penny Dale?

Ten in the Bed, Ten Out of Bed, and Ten Play Hide and Seek all have a boy and numerous animals.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5548 comments Are you sure it wasn't Jolly Snow, from the Old Bear series you mentioned? They use a sheet to make a slide they can sled down in that one. Or were the animals real animals, rather than teddies / toys?

Florence | 683 comments I came here to say jolly snow as well!

Simon Beresford | 6 comments Thanks to all for responding.
I appreciate your taking the time.
Rainbowheart - thanks a lot but it isn't any of the Ten out of bed books (it wasn't trying to teach basic maths or anything - just a story)
Becca and Florence - haha - Yes that book / episode does have a scene that very closely matches the scene in the book I am looking for. I am a bit of an expert on Old Bear stories having read them too my younger siblings every bed time for years (I enjoyed the books as much as them ha but they were much younger).
In case you haven't seen them and as a thanks for your help, please check out this link for old bear episodes, uploaded to youtbe by Jane Hissey herself.

The book I am looking for had the polar bear on the front cover (I am pretty certain) and was a lot bigger physically than the old bear books (which are very small and almost square in shape).

Simon Beresford | 6 comments I found it online at last & my descriptions above from memory would have made it VERY difficult for anyone to have given the correct title / author.

The book I have been searching for "Polar" by Elaine Moss
Thanks again to everyone who posted replies - greatly appreciated.
