Just finished reading: "The Ocean in My Ears" by Meagan Macvie (★★★★★), it is a historical fiction, coming of age, young adult novel, which centers on Merideth "Meri" Miller, whose future is a black hole, but the summer before senior year irrevocably changes her – much more quickly than she can keep up .
Macive's narrative is raw and occasionally verges on melodramatic in its true-to-life capturing of an adolescent voice. As Meri learns to trust her gut instincts in a variety of situations, Macvie movingly explores the ever-shifting highs and lows of adolescence. Interspersed are pages from Mer's diary as well as letter she exchanges with friends and family, which is rather effective to give dimension to the main protagonist.
