Read this book back during the early to mid-2000s from my old middle school library. I believe the book contained an amulet (?red?), a dragon (?green?) or just his eye, and the characters drawn in almost an anime-style...think large eyes and pointy hair. There are also possibly several black/white line drawing illustrations sporadically throughout the book, only the size of a page or half the page.

The plot included possibly 3? youths being transported to another world that behaves much like an RPG, Videogame. When they arrived, each character was assigned a role like a wizard, swordsman, etc. And in order to level up and escape, they have to get items by scanning the ?barcodes? on defeated enemies.
