I read this fun book sometime in the mid 1980's, and I think it was old even then. It had some cheerful illustrations, but I think with mostly text. It described this humorous situation where a young man attempted to woo the older sister of the protagonist, by repeatedly gifting her the actual objects of the carol The Twelve Days of Christmas. I remember at one point the oldest sister had so many golden rings, she was using them as curtain rod rings. The book may have been set in the Netherlands? Thank you!!

Could it be "The Thirteen Days Of Christmas"? By the end, the gutters of the streets are running with milk, due to the many cows being milked. The girl's sweetheart is a merchant trader, and tends to buy gifts in bulk! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

The Thirteen Days of Christmas does sound much more like it! I'm going to have to order a copy to see.
Quotes from The Thirteen Days of Christmas by Jenny Overton (Google Books):
...insist on returning the rings, Francis might be very hurt. And while one gold ring might appear - well, significant, five simply appear - let us say, generous.'
...
It took several minutes to tidy up the mess. Annaple, flushed and untidy, sat down to sew the rings back on the curtain. 'The thread had rotted right through,' she said, examining the tattered ends.'
'They're twenty years old, those curtains,' Papa said...
