For this prompt i picked something to do with baking since I've always wanted to own a bakery.. Chocolate Cream Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke
I read The Silent Patient I did not hate it. LOL, that surprised me. I usually don’t enjoy hyped books, and I’ve not really liked the books that a lot of people chose for the “medical thriller” prompt last year.But I was happily surprised by this kind of quiet book. I did enjoy the day-to-day occupational bits, and much of the moments were spot on. I read this for my current-job-if-only-I-hadn’t-been-injured. I do miss my former profession tw (view spoiler), and I worked with many colleagues who were much better people and professionals than in the book. Nice walk down memory lane.
I suppose “finished a PhD during a global pandemic and can’t find a job because the world is completely messed up so she has to move in with her parents at 37” is too specific. Maybe I’ll go with photographer.
I read Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult for this prompt. The main character is a RN (Registered Nurse) in Labor & Delivery....I am also a RN although I work in the Emergency RoomHighly Recommend this book....great read and Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors!!
Nurse & Investigator & an agent for the British Secret Service. A Journey to Munich (Maisie Dobbs #12) by Jacqueline Winspear
"Dream" job: Inspector with a focus on serial killers. I say "dream" because I'd never really do it, but enjoy reading and watching movies/TV shows about it.Book: The Jigsaw Man
Author: Nadine Matheson
For anyone who enjoys mystery/thriller/crime books this is a good read! It kept my interest all the way to the end.
I'm currently an academic advisor for a university and was formerly at various points a bookstore employee, a therapist, and various other things along the way. While there are lots of good books about bookstores, there are very few that treat therapists realistically. So I went with my dream job for this one: a wandering monk who collects stories and who has a talking bird for a companion. Why not? The book is "When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain" and the author is Nghi Vo, who I think is an author to watch- everything I've read by them is a treat. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Someone suggested putting Lirael in this one for me because she works at a library, and whilst I don't have a 'dream' job, being a librarian is something I would be VERY interested in doing! So I'm going with it.
Hi! My current job is Sales Exec for a software company. Any ideas about books where someone does sales?? I could do dream job, of course, but just wondering if there was anything in my current role that any of you would know about?
Also, I might even read a non-fiction/motivational/business book written by a sales person...
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller is great. Of course, I hope your time in sales goes much better!
Katrina, Rabbit, Run - main character is a salesman, as is the main character in Our Man in Havana. If you work in software, Uncanny Valley is interesting.
Usually, you would find me standing in linewaiting get my favorite Artist CD's (Glitter) so
when I found The Mariah Carey Book,
(The Meaning Of Mariah Carey)
I took it as a sign. I want to a be Rockstar.
My Dream Job.
Vinu wrote: "Does anyone know any good books where the MC is a fashion designer?"If you like cozy mysteries, Melissa Bourbon has a “Magical Dressmaking” series, first book of which is Pleating for Mercy. I’ve read the first two or three and liked them.
Synopsis: When her great-grandmother passes away, Harlow Jane Cassidy leaves her job as a Manhattan fashion designer and moves back to Bliss, Texas, where she opens a dressmaking boutique in the turn-of-the-century farmhouse she inherited.
Medini wrote: "Does a non fiction book with the author in your current job count for this one??"Oh for sure. They're the main character of their book right? I would count it.
For a Librarian, I would listen to either of these 3 books:The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman;
The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan;
Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore by Matthew J. Sullivan.
I have a question for anyone who has read The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren, what's the profession of the love interest?
