Debora Davis | 6 comments Elizabeth Lowell has several titles that qualify: Pearl Cove,
Jade Island, Amber Beach, Midnight in Ruby Bayou, and Granite Man.

message 52: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 387 comments For sticklers, granite is a rock (a composite of several minerals), not a mineral!

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments Teri wrote: "Salt doesn't come up on that list. Nor does sodium or rock salt. "

It is, its mineral name is halite (NaCl = Sodium Chloride = Salt)

message 54: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments The prompt is "a book with a gem, mineral, or rock in the title" so granite is fine even for sticklers.

message 55: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1256 comments So over confident fail here. My freebee book for this prompt got pushed to a 2022 realease. 🤦‍♀️ So now I'll have to put effort in. :(

Pernille Kassow (pakassow) | 3 comments I'm doing Salt by Nayyirah Waheed :) Salt

My lack of science education is showing.

After sorting through my TBR, I'm really glad this category includes "rock" - I'm going to finally read Picnic at Hanging Rock (after several years of telling myself I REALLY need to read it!) - a rock is a rock.

Nadine wrote: "I'm a bit confused by metal vs mineral myself. It looks like if the metal is a pure element, like iron, then it counts as a mineral, but if the metal is a mixture, like steel, then it is not a mine..."

That would be my interpretation as well.

LOL I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out why it was a Frisbee prompt for you ... I think I need to take a break from the computers!"

Okay. That convinced me I really need to get to my reading! LOL

Oops! I didn’t check the whole prompt, just got sucked into the discussion of what a mineral is! Sorry about that.

I think that means Dragon Teeth would work.

Carly Friedman (carlykayreads) | 61 comments For nerds like me, Breath from Salt might be an option! I love books about medicine and Bill Gates recognized it as one of his favorite 5 books of 2020 (https://www.gatesnotes.com/About-Bill...).

Flying Snow | 3 comments Kelly wrote: "Snow and ice are minerals, if that helps anyone!"

Bit late to the party, but yes, that is super helpful - thank you!

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments Is Stone Mothers too much of a stretch? It took me a ridiculously long time to realize it might fit, but it also feels like a bit of a cheat since stone seems so vague.

Tanu (tanu_reads) | 115 comments Obligatory Deltora Quest for anyone who wants an easy kids’ read (series 1 only).

LOL I'm planning to read Picnic at Hanging Rock so if you ask me, "stone" fits just fine.

message 70: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments @Tanvi, why did you put Deltora's Quest here? Does Deltora mean something I don't know? Tried to look it up but I only got the books.

Mahi | 93 comments Rachel wrote: "Is Stone Mothers too much of a stretch? It took me a ridiculously long time to realize it might fit, but it also feels like a bit of a cheat since stone seems so vague."

I think it would apply!

Thank you, Rebecca. That one is in my TBR pile, too.

message 75: by John (new)

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) Another good one that I have already read is The Price of Salt by Claire Morgan (pseudonym for Patricia Highsmith). Some editions will have its later name change Carol or combines both the old and new.

message 76: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 54 comments Curious why people have listed books with “snow” for this challenge? As far as I know, it’s not any of the three criteria...

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) Melinda wrote: "Curious why people have listed books with “snow” for this challenge? As far as I know, it’s not any of the three criteria..."

Because snow is composed of frozen water, or ice, it can also be classified as a mineral. ^_^

Thank you! I really want to read this one too, and didn't realize chalk would fit.

message 79: by Jenni (new)

Jenni (jennigray) | 29 comments I've been meaning to read Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky for ages, so this prompt works nicely for that :)

Any Old Diamonds (Lilywhite Boys #1) by K.J. Charles

message 82: by Natasha (new)

Cindy Belden | 73 comments I read The Deception of the Emerald Ring for this prompt. I wanted to get back into this series https://www.goodreads.com/series/4036... and it was the next book.

message 87: by Lilith (new)

Lilith (lilithp) | 1073 comments I am intrigued by A Study in Emerald. I've never read Neil Gaiman and I don't read very many graphic novels, so this could be a leap into whole new reading zones.

Thanks for posting this link.
I went through and tin is there so Descender, Vol. 1: Tin Stars is a go. :)

message 96: by JessicaMHR (last edited Feb 08, 2021 09:51PM) (new)

JessicaMHR | 576 comments I was thinking of reading Star Sand by Roger Pulvers. I think it fits. A star is basically a flaming ball of gas and sand is pulverized coral or rock. Plus this is a Kindle first read that I have had for I don't know how long on my Kindle just waiting for it's time to be read.

message 97: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 366 comments Looks like I have a couple on my TBR that would count:

The Copper Promise
The Map of Salt and Stars
A Virtuous Ruby

message 98: by Christy (new)

Christy Baker I just requested the cookbook Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking from the library. I enjoy reading cookbooks in addition to novels, poetry, etc. so I figure it will make a nice addition to this category.
