There is only one adult (lady) in the whole house who takes care of all the children. Once the children reach a certain age, they have to leave and never return. We are never told what really happens to the older children.
The setting is always the house which seems very isolated (as though there is no one nearby, no building or person), its attic or the small pond outside and the area outside the house where the children play.
None of the children ever worry or get miss their families, they just get used to the new place and people and enjoy it actually.
We follow one boy who is recently taken and brought here (not taken forcefully, rather through magic or something similar? - they just sleep and wake up at the house)
The boy gets used to the house, children (especially one older girl who later has to move due to being over a certain age) and the lady. But overtime, he starts to get suspicious as he notices things which don't seem right...
(view spoiler)[ Near the end, the main character (a boy who was about to be old enough to have to leave) manages to escape from the place and returns to his parents who haven't aged a day since he went missing even though he is now older. (hide spoiler)]
The book was written before 2010. Read in hardback format as part of class reading in year 8 so not for too mature a audience.
If anyone has seen the promised neverland anime/comics, it has a very similar plot to this.
