Hi everyone,

I found a book that I will be reading over the holidays and wanted to share it with you.

It is called "Away With The Penguins/How the Penguins Saved Veronica" by Hazel Prior. If you are familiar with author, Hazel Prior, she wrote another great book called "Ellie and the Harp Maker."

This book is about an 86-year old millionaire woman who lives alone in a mansion in Scotland. No family, close friends, she spends her time watching documentaries and specifically one about penguins. Veronica reflects on her life and decides she must make the remaining years of her life meaningful and use her money for a good cause. She decides to will her money to a penguin project in Antarctica, who until recently, have worked on a very small budget and trying to do research on penguins and save them. Veronica decides to to witness this project herself and travel to Antarctica. During her time there, we discover more about Veronica's past, her lonely life and the healing power of the penguins to change her destiny.

Happy Thanksgiving! Let us know what you are reading.

Thanks so much for sharing that recommendation.

I am currently reading The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. It is really good. I don't normally read books with fantastical elements, but this book is just charming and delightful to read. I recommend it! It's a nice break to read something sweet as a distraction from the dark times we're in.

Amy | 11 comments Thank you both for the book recommendation. They both sound intriguing.

I have just finished The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, I am letting this book live in my imagination for a few days as it is just so powerful, I am reluctant to start anything new. I recommend it,
especially now. I would recommend it at anytime, a necessary read.

This December I hope to read the following:

Shakespeare's The taming of the shrew
The bear and the nightingale by Katherine Arden
A red herring without mustard by Alan Bradley
Bracebridge Hall by Washington Irving

Happy reading everyone!
Amy

Hi Colton,

Thanks for suggesting "The House in The Cerulean Sea" TJ Klune has an extensive list of books to choose from. I'll add this book to my "to read" list. The plot sounds very exciting. I'm anxious to know what you thought of it when you finish. Fantasy books are very popular in 2020. The best "great escape" I think.

Stay tuned for our next book selection poll. It's coming soon.

Hi Amy,

I loved "The Book Thief" it is indeed a very powerful book. Watch the movie if you have a chance. It's interesting to hear the perspective from everyone who has read the book. The narration in this book is so unique.

Nice December reading list. You cannot go wrong with Shakespeare. Stay tuned for our next book selection poll. It's coming soon.
