Is it bad that it's only March 2 and I'm already excited about April's quests? =p

Can I just clarify - for the Tavern Delicacy quests, are fresh rats any killed after 1st March, or after the quest was posted?I'm gonna serve me up some rat in here :-D

For the task - read books set in the past - what do you class as set in the past. I just wanted to clarify this as technically a book set in 2013 is set in the past.
For: Read 3 books about sports, dogs or foodDoes it have to be non-fiction or can it be a fiction story that incorporates one of these things?

It can be either, though there should be a large focus on the topic in the book.
i.e. Main character is a chef or a vet or a sports star type main emphasis not main character eats lunch at a sports bar on his way to do something else.
I really want to try this and start, but I am having a hard time understanding all the rules. Can I use all my books I have already read this year?
Welcome to the game, Sarah. The challenge seems complex at first but once you read through the rules and check out a couple of threads of your fellow competitors it becomes clear. And yes, you can use all the books you have alredy read this year.
Love the new update. I already have a STAR TREK week and one of the books I plan to read is Yesterday's Son which is about Spock using the Guardian of Forever. :)
Hi Sarah. Welcome to the quests. Feel free to ask all the questions you want. Any books read starting January 1,2015 can be used but you can't do expired quests unless you use the Time Walking Potion which Allows one quest to be completed after it has been removed from the current quest list. Two quests have expired so far:
Gather Berries and Gather Bones

I don't really read a lot of series, how important will it be to have my magic staff? I will probably be much more able to up my swords. Also what if we read a second or third in a series because we already read the earlier ones before 2015. Are those able to be used somehow?
You could always level your sword as your main weapon. Second and third books are fair game - I've got a level 3 staff and of the five books I read for it, none are in the same series.
So Cruamros gave me this minor poison potion. What do I do with it. *swirls contents of vial around and squints at it*
Rosella,Rules: "Minor Poison Potion - Poisons the monster causing 2 amount of additional damage at the beginning of the turn."
"Potions may be used during or after battle. They do not replace your turn during battle and as many potions as you want can be used at any time."
The best you can do with it is to use it at the beginning of the battle and the monster will get additional +2 damage every turn of the battle. Quite handy, don't you think?
Welcome Sarah! I agree it's very overwhelming at first, but if you have any questions just post them here!I'm with you, where I am just going to focus on my magic sword as it seems easier for me.
And yes you can use all the books you've read so far this year in any current quest or to help increase your sword. Some people like to focus more on quests and some on their sword.
Quest are basically mini reading challenges that earn you experience points (and sometimes other goodies) to increase your level.

Now I have something to do during the boring meeting I have at 9:00 - planning out all the books! *Snickers* I hope we have more than just March to finish it, though - that's quite a few books to read!
Kelly, Tea, haven't you by any chance changed the attributes of the Enhanced Weapon Potion? I had (detailed) plans for its use and bam! the attributes are different all of a sudden. Now I have to change my Dragon slaying plans. *sulks*
BTW Love the new task. Minor gripe: It's Mr. Spock (or Ambassador Spock, or Commander Spock), not Dr. Spock.
Zuzana wrote: "Kelly, Tea, haven't you by any chance changed the attributes of the Enhanced Weapon Potion? I had (detailed) plans for its use and bam! the attributes are different all of a sudden. Now I have to..."
I have no idea about potion. I usually start paying attention to those things when I actually get close to it. As far as I know it didn't change. I see same wording as before.
Dr. Spock?! How did I miss this? OK, I'm officially stopping checking quests after 10pm.
*goes to fix it*
I just laid out my first two dragon slaying plans yesterday - I'm going to slay the Green Dragon first and then the Red Dragon. I think I can slay them both once I'm level 7 and have a level 10 staff, which is a lot earlier than I originally thought I could kill them! I have it planned out that I'll be level 5 and have a level 5 staff by the end of March, so hopefully I'll be ready to slay come April or May!

Heh, most of mine are written after 10pm too so that may explain things.
I think I might need to start planning what comes after the Great Novel Dragon... people are a lot further than I expected them to be.
Zuzana wrote: "Kelly, Tea, haven't you by any chance changed the attributes of the Enhanced Weapon Potion? I had (detailed) plans for its use and bam! the attributes are different all of a sudden. Now I have to..."
Enhanced Weapon Potion is the same as far as I remember. I know there was a discussion about it and the Damage Potion being similar but I don't think we changed either one. The description is the same as the one I have in the thread where I set it up and I usually don't go back and update that one with wording issues.
Sarah wrote: "I don't really read a lot of series, how important will it be to have my magic staff? I will probably be much more able to up my swords. There's only a few monsters that give you a benefit to use one weapon over the other.
Kelly wrote: "I think I might need to start planning what comes after the Great Novel Dragon... people are a lot further than I expected them to be."Um, not they are not! Most of us are still fighting rats and goblins!
I need to work on my injuries faster *sigh* Problem is I'm spelling leech so I had quit healing myself so I could use those books for quest. *looks accusingly at Kelly*
I've been using strategic level ups to heal at this point, but I know that I'm not going to be able to rely on that much longer. My hope is to coast on that free health while I level up my weapons as quickly as I can so I can kill without taking (much) damage. I can one shot rats right now and am almost to the point where I can take on bats for only 3 damage. Once I get my staff up to level 7 and add the +1 damage from my horse, I'll be able to one shot goblins as well. That way, I'll be able to avoid using health potions for the common monsters and save them up for the big boys.
It refers to the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, but as you did Tea, I remember it from The Matrix.
Sorry, my memory must be playing tricks on me. I was sure that there was "weapons"not "a weapon" in the description. My bad.
The DRAGON already!?! I'm still struggling with bats and goblins. I guess I should start working on my poor magic sword.
Wouldn't that be awesome if you could combine you sword level and magic level to create a super magic sword?
Dragons? My staff strength is 12 and I haven't even thought of going after dragons yet. You'd have to waste potions and health cures like crazy. Soooo not worth it.I'm tying to level up my staff as fast as possible yet still going after exp points and fulfilling quests. Being able to one shot goblins and take 3 only damage from bats let's me accumulate the many rat, bones and wings for quests quickly.
You need large hp to withstand the huge attack of dragons. Yikes!
I was working out what it would take to beat the novel dragon... Level 9 (360 exp) and enough potions to heal back to full every single turn. Plus a pretty darn strong weapon - a level 18 sword/staff would take 8 hits to kill it I think.
I have it worked out that I'll only have to heal 15 HP (so either one Major Heal, three Minor Heals, etc.) in the battle if I have 22 HP. I'll then be left with only 1 HP at the end of the battle, but I can use alternate ways to heal (leveling up or spell-it-outs) from there.
Sarah wrote: "When you level up can you add your HP's left over from the previous level onto the new HP's?"When you level up you hp are full again.
For example, you were at level 2 and had hp 3. When you level up to 3 your hp will automatically be 14
