Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
A Novel Role-Playing Game

The Local Tavern
I just realized I used 'Salem's Lot for a quest that requires goblin bones. Apparently I don't read that good.Seriously at least I have an extra book to use toward another quest!
Solving the coded instruction for Ser Amanda' s quest was really fun. Did you come up with the idea yourself, Amanda? Very clever.
Zuzana wrote: "Solving the coded instruction for Ser Amanda' s quest was really fun. Did you come up with the idea yourself, Amanda? Very clever."Thank you. ☺
You know, your original quest wasn't written in English :P
So many quests! I always feel SO overwhelmed when they get posted. And then five minutes later I'm just like ALRIGHT LETS DO THIS!Thanks for the new update, mods <3
Tea, I esp enjoyed "Mluvis cesky?" Great idea and excellent execution. This is becoming easily my all-time favourite challenge.
Ahh new Quests?! I just started organizing the other ones. Man I need to run off and paw through my books! That dragon may need to wait....
I have a question about the Time For The Dead quest. You know how the month changes depending on the edition you read? It'll say Published April of 2012 (First published October of 2010). Should we be using the publishing month of the edition we read or the original date of the book in general?
I have a question quest about RUN ALEX RUN, for the word "North" could I use Northanger Abbey or does North have to be a stand alone word? Thanks!

Kelly, how strict are we on science book (dr Cottage - treatment 3). I'm just going through the list and there are books like The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Live or The Hunger Games on it. :) (Not that I mind. I really like that they are there. At least I'll find something to read I really want to read. :P)

Yay! I was hoping that one was obvious enough.
Margaret wrote: "Umm... what is the reward for rescuing the fairies (A Fairy Odd path quest)?"Oops. Give me a sec. I'll get one up.
Reva wrote: "I do my attacks on Sundays. So there is already a week of rest between the attacks. Does this qualify for part 3 of Treatment 3?"You'd have to finish part 3 on a Sunday. Then you couldn't attack til the following Sunday. No bribing would be able to be done during the week.

You can boast about rats killed since the beginning of the challenge. Note that there's still a reading requirement on that one as well.
And Tea's right for fresh rat being since the challenge started.

Heh. I didn't want to make the quests too hard to follow. We have trouble with interpretation of them when they're all in english.
RebeccaS wrote: "I have a question quest about RUN ALEX RUN, for the word "North" could I use Northanger Abbey or does North have to be a stand alone word? Thanks!"That one seems fine to me.

Ok, I went booking again. I've now got my next 14 books planned out entirely around quests haha. It'll only take me the next 2 months or so to get through them.
❀Tea❀ wrote: "Kelly wrote: "Should be real science and not science fiction :P "They are tagged as both :)"
Lol. That scares me that people think hunger games is a science book.
For a science book, I'll be going for The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements but I can recommend The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
I think I've stretched my planning limits as far as I can manage. My next 54 books are placed in quests and organized into a schedule. I feel like I need a nap now lol

That's where I started. Then Popular Science Books on the bottom and found Hunger Games. So can I read that? :P
Does it have to be nonfiction?
Most Crichton's books are also tagged as science. And they are quite scientific (at least those I've read)
Next year I am going to attempt to not have a lot of reading commitments so I can plan my reading around quests. That sounds like fun.
I do the SRC and so I plan all my books around that and then FORCE THEM ALL TO FIT QUESTS. Like those kids toys with the shapes, trying to fit the circle inside the square.
What's the Greater Healing Potion that you get in Treatment 2? Is it the same as a Major Healing Potion or is it a new type?
I want to use my Find Items Potion on the Two Empty Halves of Coconuts quest - there are 10 steps but 12 books - do I do 5 of the 10 steps or do I need to read 6 of the 12 books?

Me too! Luckily I have finished this season's SRC early, so I've been trying to do quick reads that get me level-upped staff as well as the quests. Kill! Kill!

Sorry, it is a Major Heal Potion. It's been updated.

Find Items Potion are used for things where you have to collect X number of goblin bones or X number of berries. Not for ones where it's different steps for each item.

Still not going to give you Hunger Games :P
I will give you Crichton books though since those tend to be based in real science.
