I am creating this topic as a place for people to make suggestions regarding the group.

I also want to ask the moderator what the ultimate goal of the group is?

Is the plan to have a group read via poll monthly? (seams to long) Weekly (seams to short) So maybe Bimonthly or every other week?

I'm down to join in and read some manga with y'all just trying to get the lay of the land.

I created this group mainly so I read read manga with other people who actually enjoy reading it and talk about it with them. Most of the people I know don't enjoy manga, so I thought it would be a good idea.

It doesn't take to long to read a manga, so I think a good time plot would be we read it for a week and then we discuss it the next week. (Don't know exact time of meeting seeing as I don't know when all of you are available.) I might also have to extend the time a little because some of you are ordering hard copies.

Also Greg, it was actually a really good idea of you setting up up this discussion for question and suggestions. Thanks!

So let us all decide a particular manga series to read in 2 weeks? And then talk about what we thought about it?

A majority must want to read the manga. Since everybody doesn't have the same taste, we can go through different genres every two week.

What should we begin with?

Seeing as we are reading action right now, in two weeks we could read a romance, sports, etc. I'm going to create a poll for the next type of genre to read, and once we finish reading One Piece Vol. 1, I'll create a poll with the books in the genre that was most voted for.

I would like to make the suggestion that maybe we have the option to continue on with a series after the two weeks, as I am somewhat of a complietionist, and I know a lot of others are as well. Perhaps make the thread for a whole series? And then move on to a new series for the group to read? That way, whoever wants to continue can still talk to others about later volumes, and those who did not care for volume one can try another, different series?

I would agree with Jenny would be nice to keep taking about later books as well as start new ones (I fear this might end up costing a fortune lol)

I agree with you. When we finish Vol. 1, I can create a discussion for people who want to keep on reading One Piece. (I'll be part of that)

A good idea for those who want to keep up on a series and are hoping to have someone to discuss with. Just keep in mind to use spoiler tags.

Manga Kid I would maybe add another discussion board or 2. Suggestions being a board for "Group Reads" another for "Series Discussion" maybe another for "Off Topic".

I would also recommend our next post be named differently like "October 2020 One Piece Vol. 1" or "Group Read #1 One Piece Vol. 1" or some variation on that.

I also have a question regarding future polls for reads. Are we allowing people to recommend for the polls books that have been Fan Translated and can be read online. Or are we only allowing recommendations for manga that can be acquired "legitimately".

Jenny I miss the old Library round here it used to have loads of books and manga, comics etc but they closed it. now it's a community hub (coffee shop for the elderly)

It's better if this group would have atleast 4 moderators or something. we should do activities as well such as games anything manga related and character discussions too. anything to keep our group active.

I also suggest we should do a manga of the month instead of reading the volumes every other week. We could create a discussion board for Manga of the Month and under the board the topics should be named/titled as: December 2020 MOTM: One Piece

and there we could discuss or chat about the volumes for one month :))

I would like to help! I am not that busy so I guess I could help you out :)

I also want to suggest if you all want this group to be active, we should do activities such as games. The moderators would be the ones to decide which games but I hope everyone would participate.

Yeah! We should do Manga Recommendations too :)
We should grow this group to have more members and atleast find this place as their new home as manga readers.

Hey everyone, I suggest the title of our topics under MOTM should be titled in this format: (Month and Year - Manga Title)

For example:
Manga of the Month:
　　December 2020 MOTM - One Piece
　　January 2021 MOTM - Manga Title

Moved from the December suggestions thread to clear that up. I'll go delete the previous comments in an hour to keep that thread strictly recommendations.

I was thinking just leave it as is for now. Have everyone either recommend something from Romance or Horror. I know it's kinda hodge podge but really we don't have too many members anyway so we may actually get a few more recommendations this way.

As for One Piece I don't plan on continuing I would just leave it as an open thread for anyone that wishes to continue to post in.

Yeah... maybe we should just start the MOTM in January. Anyone can still comment on the One Piece thread if any of you want to chat about it.

As to the folders, Can I ask permission to handle the folders and let me organize the threads? It looks so messy right now and all over the place.

Regarding to the Manga of the Month, not all members are required to read along with us. Everyone could participate, if they don't want to, I will host a challenge in my reading room every month and give points to those who read alot of mangas. I will also send the format of the challenge later, after fixing the folders.

I would also make a thread of Introduce Yourself so that new members can tell us about them :))

Sorry I just reorganized the folders to put the reading rooms and games at the bottom and the group reads at the top since imo those are the more important folders. I also edited some misspelled words on them.

I think we should use this thread for Mod Discussion on changes to the group before making them. Sorry for over stepping.

My plan was to send out a mass communication to all members linking them to the December Nomination thread. I would inform them that anyone who is interested should nominate a horror or romance title and that they had until Dec 5th to do so. I would then take all or most of the nominations and make a poll and leave that open for another 5 days. I would then send out another communication linking everyone to the poll. That would give us from the 10th until the end of the month for a December read. I feel the messages pull people back to the Group.

I would also like to go back to the December nominations thread and delete any comments that don’t contain an actual nomination.

I really like your idea, should we start the MOTM this December or January? I suggest the nominations and polls should start a week before the MOTM so that we could already decide and finalize.

For example:
　Nov 23-30 Nominations and Finalization of December MOTM
　Dec. 1 Start of the MOTM
　Dec. 26-31 Nominations and Finalization of January MOTM
　Jan. 1 Start of MOTM

Since it's already december, we can now start linking the members to the nominations thread and the poll. we're kind of late but we have a lot of time til the end of the month.

If you really wanted to start I January that’s fine. I just figured swing for the fences and squeeze a December one in. Since it’s likely to be just the most active members anyway. This also just gives us kind of a practice run.

For future formats my thought was 2 weeks before the end of the month we open the January Nomination thread. 1 week after that we create and open a poll. Then during the month we can also decide on themes etc.

The time line looks good to me Eden. When would we vote for the genre we would nominate from? Maybe the 23 to the 26? That would be 3 days to decide a genre, 3 to nominate books and 3 to vote on the MOTM. Or maybe we should start earlier in the month, that way everyone can start reading on the first? I just think if we announce the winner on the first, to be started on the first, those who order a physical copy would be way behind and maybe not want to participate, since they would have to wait up to a few weeks to get the book.

I think genre decision should be chosen ahead of time by the mods personally. Example: 2 weeks before the end of the month the mods will have chosen the genre and a communication is sent asking people to nominate within that genre. Then a poll would be created. Too many steps and polls otherwise. That’s my opinion anyway.

When do you think we should finish our discussion of One Piece seeing as it's a little messed up with the time schedule
