So, Malazan starting February 15th? Which will see us to the end of the year, assuming we don't flake out. Then onto Deverry.
OK, gang, here's the deal.
Series read for anyone who wants to join in. We are going to read the 10 books in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson.
Since it is already the end of January and since I don't want to conflict too much with the BOTMs, we will start the discussion for the first book, Gardens of the Moon, on February 15 and we will take one month for the first book, taking us to March 15.
The books get longer after the first, so we will take more time with the other books. I'm not yet sure if it will be a full 2 months or more like 6 weeks, but I will post as we go along.
I also hope to divide the books into chunks so we can discuss what's happening as we read, rather than just having 2 topics, "planning to read--no spoilers" and "finished--spoilers on the whole book".
Candiss, is there anything I need to know about setting up topics, etc?

"Kathi: On the 1st, I'll post a folder for the series and an introductory topic with whatever information has been collected. (Basic schedule, series list, etc. We can sticky this for convenience, and I can add anything to it you need added at any time.) This initial topic will make the folder visible to all. (Until an actual topic has been posted in a folder, that folder is invisible except from the administrative/mod side of things.)
After that, you should be able to post as many topics as you like. The system is very straight-forward, and I can't imagine there being anything tricky to surmount. Of course, if anything weird does pop up, or if you're wondering if there is a tool or way to do some specific thing, you can PM one of the mods, and we'll do what we can. (One thing I can anticipate one might want to know and which I can answer right now: There does not seem to be any way to make nested folders-within-folders. It would be helpful to be able to have one folder for each book, all nested within the series folder, but...nope.)
If you would like to PM me with whatever you would like the intro post to say, I'll make sure it gets done on the 1st and will send you the folder link and link it in this thread for others, so people don't have to hunt all over the forum to find it.

Thanks. Tomorrow I'll PM you with my thoughts for the introductory topic.

Based on the interest here, it is likely that we may do Deverry as another series read when we finish Malazan Book of the Fallen. Of course, that will be months from now, so who knows what the interest will be like then.

The series read folder for Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson is now open and accessible. Find it here.
Another 1 of my groups, I had not known this just also started Malazan this month: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
So there are 3 groups current reading/going to read the whole series. I kinda of wish they would all come together to form 1 group, so everyone could met, cross path in order to discuss, and get the full experience, but I know that will never happened as they are different people. Here is all the discussion for the 1st book just this year between the 3 groups:

Man is this series popular.
Kevin, thanks for the links to the other groups that are also discussing this series. I sometimes go and check out other discussions, even if I don't join in.
Next month (mid March 2016) we will be finishing up the Malazan Book of the Fallen series read. All the folders have been posted and remain available for anyone who is reading the series at a different pace and those who may chose to read it at a different time. You can read the comments AND add your own--like the past Books of the Month folders, these discussions are not closed to future comments.
I am posting here to see if there is still interest in doing a series read of the Deverry books by Katherine Kerr. If there is and if the mods don't mind, I would be happy to set up the various folders and keep things going, like I did with the Malazan series read.
So please chime in with your thoughts and, if you are interested, when you would like to start. I was thinking of the beginning of April.

I would love to read many series, but I'm not sure that's one of them. What about asking for nominations to see what's currently of the most interest?

If the group members want to nominate and have a poll for a series read, that's up to the moderators.
I only brought this up because the Deverry series came up last year when we were looking at Malazan, and I wanted to see if anyone was still interested in that particular series.

Im definitely still up for reading Deverry. I was hoping we'd carry on with the plan :)April is fine.
I would be interested! I read the first few Deverry books many years ago and don't remember much except that I liked them.
Hi, everybody. Kathi send me a note, so I thought I'd pop over here and let you guys know that I can't see any reason why those of us wanting to read the Deverry series together shouldn't do so, especially since you already have a willing series leader. Do your reading thing! :)Additionally, if there are a bunch of folks wanting to do a series read that isn't Deverry, we can always gather input here and then run a poll. As long as we have some one who wants to run a series and a few people wanting to read a series together, there's no good reason not to have more than one series folder going at a time. It's no big problem for the mods, and if it makes members happy and facilitates sf/f reading, it can only be a good thing.
So...for now, start up your Deverry discussion however you'd like (and we'll include info about it in March's monthly email) and let's wait to see if more people chime in here about wanting to coordinate and run any other series read. We'll move on to a poll regarding that if and when it becomes apparent we have enough interest.

Thanks, Candiss, for giving us the OK.
I think we have 7 people interested in Deverry as of now, and that's good enough for me. However, as I stated earlier, I don't want to start until April 1 since the Malazan series read officially ends in mid-March. So, Candiss, if you do put something in the March monthly email, it can just be a "heads up" that we will start in April.
Candiss, I'm not sure I know how to set up a folder for the discussion threads. I think you did that for us for the Malazan series. If I send you a message with an overview, could you put it up in March? Then I will put up the actual thread topics as we go along, as we did for Malazan. Thanks!

Oh sorry, Kathi...I forgot that I have to set up the base folder. Yes, just send me an overview like for the last series, and I'll get the folder up on the first.
I will not be joining in since I have only read the first book and really did not enjoy it because of the changes/flash in the timeline in within the story.

You're welcome. I'm kind of being selfish because I am guaranteeing some reading buddies for discussing the series.

I'm in for a Deverry read! I tried the first two over a year ago and enjoyed them. Been waiting to get to the rest until we could do a group read.
Helen wrote: "Hooray, loads of us."
I think 9 who have spoken up so far. I am going to use March to finish up some other books so I'll be ready when we start in April.

More will be posted in April, but everyone in Beyond Reality is welcome to join in on the new start to this series. Thanks KAthi for getting it going!
I won't be joining as it'll take me the rest of the year to finish up Malazan I think, but I hope you all enjoy this series :)

And, like Malazan, the folders will remain open and available for people to read the discussion and add their comments if and/or whenever they get around to reading the books.

The first book is not too long but they get pretty hefty, especially from book 3 onward. We can look at breaking the books into chunks, like we did with The Wars of Light and Shadow.

Shall I throw up a poll?"
Thanks, Candiss. I think we don't need a poll, but maybe others think we do.
