Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1730 comments The Company by K.J. Parker was A-Team set in medieval times. The first part is about the group getting back together, then heading to the island. The second part is them on the island. Interspersed through out is flashbacks to the war.

Ruth | 119 comments 1. What are you reading?
I've just read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
2. What kind of island is it set on?
Guernsey is one of the Channel Isles situated in the English Channel quite close to the northern coast of France. I visited as a teenager in the 1970s. This novel wasn't really my cup of tea although I think I'm in a minority as most reviews on Goodreads are overwhelmingly positive.
3. What island books would you recommend?
Treasure Island
A Winter in Mallorca
Any of the Havana novels by Leonardo Padura
The Summer Book
AND the book I've just read for prompt 52 The Lost Lights of St Kilda by Elisabeth Gifford an absolutely wonderful book that gives a real sense of being on the wild, lonely Scottish Island of Hirta, one of the islands called St Kilda.

message 57: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1060 comments I read The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong, set on Vancouver Island.

Other island-based books I'd recommend are Nation, Moloka'i, Little Black Lies, Snow Falling on Cedars and, if you can find a copy, Tea With Tracey: The Woman's Survival Guide To Bermuda.

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments 1. What are you reading?
The Forbidden by Heather Graham
2. What kind of island is it set on?
While the book does not entirely take place on an island the main crime and a lot of the mystery occur on a private island in new orleans

Hannah Peterson | 700 comments 1. What are you reading?
I read Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters by Mark Dunn.

2. What kind of island is it set on?
It's set on a fictional island called Nollop, off the coast of South Carolina. Nollop is an island nation, filled with people devoted to the English language to an absurd degree.

3. What island books would you recommend?
Like many others, I did love Circe, I think largely because of the island setting: I found Circe's isolation on but also ownership of her island to be such a fascinating dynamic. I'd also recommend And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, which uses an island to great effect in order to create a "locked room" mystery. And lastly, I'd recommend Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, which is also set on a fictional island nation, this one in the Caribbean.

Misty | 1488 comments 1. What are you reading?
The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx

2. What kind of island is it set on?
Newfoundland

3. What island books would you recommend?
Looking through my books, I realized that I haven't read many books set on an island (if you don't count Ireland and Great Britain - which I don't but others might). I would recommend Betrayal by Lilja Sigurðardóttir. It is set in Iceland.

message 61: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 287 comments 1. What are you reading?
I read The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw.

2. What kind of island is it set on?
In Sparrow, Oregon. It's a Lighthouse Island and most of the action happens here.

3. What island books would you recommend?
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie.

message 62: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1152 comments 1. What are you reading? I read And Then There Were None. Even better I did it as a buddy read with my daughter. I'd give it 6 out of 5 stars if that was possible.

2. What kind of island is it set on? Soldier Island - a fictitious island in Devon, England

3. What island books would you recommend? This one! Also The Guest List.

Treasure Island and Anne of Green Gables (set on PEI) are also good if you don't want a murder mystery. Also The Favourite Game, Barney's Version, and Lullabies for Little Criminals (which are all set in Montreal).
