► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Kids/YA? Choose Your Own Adventure. Saving the world, some supernatural creature, an aeroplane trip, a temple. In the book's foreword there was something along the lines of this is my umpteenth attempt at writing a book. Published before 2014.

Amy Rhodes | 4 comments You can find a list on Wikipedia of all the books in the Choose Your Own Adventure series. I don’t know if this series matches exactly your time frame, but maybe you’ll find one of the titles familiar sounding or close to the topic you’re looking for.

Chhavi | 32 comments Thank you, I'll check that out. Though I'm not sure if the book was under the series or a random book.

Chhavi, is this book for kids or teens?

There are various CYOA-type lists on Goodreads. For example:

- Choose Your Own Adventure: Young Readers: https://www.goodreads.com/series/276746
- New CYOA: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
- Twistaplot: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1010...
- Pick-a-Path: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1228...
- You Choose: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...
- Modern Choose Your Own Adventure: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...

Chhavi | 32 comments I was ten (in 6th) when I read the book. It was from my school library for 6-12 grade so even though I was kid it could be for teens

Chhavi | 32 comments It might be the temple of flame the only problem is it was from my school library and did not have a cover... So I'm not able to confirm. If you have the book by any chance does the foreword have the above mentioned sentence and I also think it had a bomb scene where you could chose to save your friend or not.

Jon Duckworth | 171 comments Hi, sorry Chhavi, it's not your book. I just realised that Temple of Flame is trad sword and sorcery whereas your book has aeroplanes and bombs.

Will keep thinking.

Chhavi | 32 comments I think it could be 'the deadly shadow' by Richard Brightfield. But there's no copy I can access to confirm the same

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments The Deadly Shadow is available at the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/deadlysha...

You need to be a member to borrow books, but membership is free; you only need to give them an email address.

There's no Foreword in this copy, but it's an early edition. But it's not the author's first novel, either.

Jon Duckworth | 171 comments For info, "The Deadly Shadow" doesn't have a foreword by the author, so I'm guessing not your book. To be honest, I don't think any of the CYOA series had forewords like that so I reckon it might be a standalone or another series.
