Hello! So I read this book sometime between 2000-2003. The biggest trait of the female main character is that she loves playing baseball, and she’s been friends with her best friend for as long as she can remember. She comes back from summer vacation, starts middle school (?), and begins to develop feelings for the best-guy-friend. Right when she’s ready to tell him, he starts dating the most popular girl in their school. Also there was a slumber party, and I believe the girl he dates ends up being a not so nice person. I think at some point she tries to change her appearance to get the boy’s attention. That’s really all that I can remember about the story. The book cover had some red in it, and I believe that she was drawn on the cover, holding a baseball bat. I’ve tried MANY google searches but have never had any luck.
