Introductions! 2020-2021

I lived in Bolder and Lakewood for a couple of summers - I love Colorado and am thinking of moving back there.

Hi Nancy from CO! I was just visiting the Denver area three weekends ago with my HS senior! She has just submitted most of her applications - not sure where she'll wind up (yikes).
I have to read more Alice Hoffman - loved The Dovekeepers.
Welcome!

Hi JJ! We've been on an Uno team off the other GR groups (a big one!)
I hope Goodreads and all your books help a lot. I may have to request a cat picture! :)

My name is Sandra. I'm from Uruguay but I've been living in Pennsylvania for the last 10 years (can't believe it's been already 10 years!). I would say that mysteries (not cozys, though) and historical fiction are my favorite genres but I like to move from my comfort zone. This year I've tried to read more classics and non fiction.

Hi Janice! I've been to Winnipeg/Manitoba in 2015(?) for the Women's World Cup Soccer (USA!) and would like to explore more of Canada.

Hi Glenn - I love your reviews. Congrats on the retirement and being able to do whatever you want. I got into audio books a few years ago - helps so much to get more books done! I take advantage when I walk, jog and in the car.

Hi, I am Pete. I am an outdoor educator on hiatus (hopefully only temporarily) from my job due to the pandemic. I am a nonfiction junkie but I do go for safe bets in fiction (classics) have been reading writers like Virginia Woolf a lot lately.

I’m Dana from Long Island, New York.
I’ve been reading for 40+ years and my love for it grows every day.
If you saw my tbr, you would find every genre conceivable. If asked what my favorite was, it would be contemporary fiction.
Every week there’s a new audiobook loaded and ready to go and a new book at the ready.
I love nothing more than reading others reviews or thoughts on books read or new releases.
The book community is definitely a warm and friendly bunch and one I am happy to be part of.

Nice to meet you John - I bet you have some stories. I just read and appreciated Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed.
I want to get down to Savannah, GA (my daughter's name and also named after the movie Savannah Smiles). I remember really liking Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Mexican Gothic is on my TBR!

I bring a book everywhere! Am out now with a laptop just so I see who has joined in my new group!

Hi Ulyssicia! You must have a hard/stressful job at times - I can relate as an insurance adjuster. Reading is definitely a form of self care - but some books have been more enjoyable than others! Plus, if it's hard subject matter it can be somewhat stressful to me. :)

I hope you do Mindaugas - sounds like a lovely dream. I enjoy books about books/bookstores, or even a component of the book. The Shadow of the Wind was a knockout as was Three Junes.

I'm Ann from California. Since I'm retired ( and we're in lock down) I have lots of time to read. I like fiction, both classics and contemporary, and nonfiction. I don't read genre fiction very often although there was a period of about 2 years when I read mysteries only!
It's nice to see readers from so many different countries in this group.

My favorite genres are literary fiction - historical and contemporary. I occasionally read non fiction, dystopian and fantasy only once in a while but I’m not a reader of thrillers, mystery, or horror. I listen to audiobooks on occasion as well . I’ve always loved new releases so I enjoy the opportunity to read advance copies through NetGalley and Edelweiss, though it’s at the expense of the big pile of other books on my kindle and the pile by my bed 📚! I’ve written reviews for almost every book I’ve read since mid 2014 and I really enjoy it. I love being on Goodreads and interacting with others who love to read . Looking forward to connecting in this new group!
Thanks for the invitation, Colleen!

You have a wide interest Pete - and an awesome-sounding job. I hope you can get back into it sooner vs. later. I love a good nonfiction read - I learn so much.

Hi Ann - sounds like a dream retirement to me. And I have to constantly mix what I read up - I don't want to go from the same to the same all the time otherwise I'll get mixed up and feel like I'm reading the same book over and over all of the time.
It is nice to see the world being represented here!

I enjoy most genres but have made an effort to read more non-fiction this year. I've been in a bit of a reading slump. My entire household, husband, myself, and adult son were hit with covid this month. I'm looking forward to meeting new book friends and kickstarting my reading again.
I'm a retired Registered Nurse and I've loved reading ever since Sally, Dick, and Jane.

It's beautiful, Colleen, and one of those places that no matter what you expect it to be for you, you'll find it there.

Sally Dick and Jane! I think my first grade class was the last one in our school district to learn to read from those books. What a blast from the past!

Hi Angela - so glad to have you here. I feel like I've known you forever on GR and I always check out what you're reading, especially having been a librarian in your other life, you certainly know how to have an opinion on a book and we seem to have similar tastes.
Your husband sounds the best!!

Hi Libby! Enjoy having you here. I've read some great nonfiction as part of my real life book clubs. So sorry you all were affected by COVID 19 and hope all have recovered.
Sally, Dick and Jane were also near/dear to my heart as well - and are still useful! My kids were introduced to them as well.

Rattle on Martha! I loved to hear your story and hope you continue with good health for many more years. It's good to have a plan in place regardless! That's so sweet on the used bookstore purchases - and I'm sure the owners appreciate you too. Good luck at next year's Special Olympics events.
Happy Reading!

Hi Jim - welcome! Your last book sounds like it could be a clunker, and see it was written in 1910 - I'm sure the author thought there was plenty of problems back then, lol. 110 years later and you cannot make this stuff up. The book must have been decent for your 4-star rating. Any themes you see relevant to today?

I can pretty much read anything and all genres. I try and attend 3 real life book clubs which meet monthly (presently virtually).
I love to exercise, work hard (sometimes), eat well and breathe deep.
