Welcome and thanks for coming! Introduce yourself here!

I live in Lakeville, MN, USA and obviously love to read. And to discuss books. Looking to expand upon my own books and interests with you all.

I can pretty much read anything and all genres. I try and attend 3 real life book clubs which meet monthly (presently virtually).

I love to exercise, work hard (sometimes), eat well and breathe deep.

By the way - the profile picture is one of my real life bookshelves. Feel free to add yours! :)

Nancy (Colorado) Hi, I am Nancy from Fort Collins, Colorado. I am listening to Alice Hoffman being interviewed about her book, The World That We Knew. It is sponsored by Fort Collins Reads. Anyway, I am a 4th grade teacher and a mom to 3 adult children. Love family and reading, of course!

message 3: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) Hey. I am Jenny from Salisbury, Maryland. I am on disability so spend a good deal of time reading and on Goodreads. I love reading all different genres. I live with my daughter and our cats.

I lived in Bolder and Lakewood for a couple of summers - I love Colorado and am thinking of moving back there.

Janice (jamasc) | 36 comments Hi, I'm Janice. I'm from Grande Prairie, Alberta. I like all sorts of genres but lean more towards fantasy and mystery.

Glenn Russell | 3 comments Hi gang. I'm Glenn from Philadelphia - retired for 5 years following a career in publishing. Love reading books, love writing about books, love sharing positive comments with fellow booklovers. I'm a huge fan of audio books - listen while taking my daily walks along wooded paths right outside my apartment building on the edge of the city.

Hi Nancy from CO! I was just visiting the Denver area three weekends ago with my HS senior! She has just submitted most of her applications - not sure where she'll wind up (yikes).

I have to read more Alice Hoffman - loved The Dovekeepers.

Welcome!

John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 9 comments And, I'm John. Retired from State of Georgia Behavioral Health but currently teaching psychology part time for a community college. I am currently ordained as an Episcopal deacon. I live near Augusta, GA. I have been an avid reader since a child. Although I have favorite genres, contemporary and historical fiction, I have read books from all genres. I generally read several books at one time. I'm currently reading Strangers on a Train, Mexican Gothic, and Troubled Blood.

Hi JJ! We've been on an Uno team off the other GR groups (a big one!)

I hope Goodreads and all your books help a lot. I may have to request a cat picture! :)

CO seemed a lot like MN - except much drier. :)

Sandra (sanlema) Hi, everyone! Thanks for the invite, Colleen.

My name is Sandra. I'm from Uruguay but I've been living in Pennsylvania for the last 10 years (can't believe it's been already 10 years!). I would say that mysteries (not cozys, though) and historical fiction are my favorite genres but I like to move from my comfort zone. This year I've tried to read more classics and non fiction.

message 12: by Phelia (new)

Phelia | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Phelia from Jakarta. currently working as marketing. I Commonly read nonfiction with random topic depend on my mood hahahaha. But let's see if you guys can suggest me any good fiction books, just help me to make sure it is not a sad story ;)

Cia (ulambert) Hi, I am Ulyssicia from Buffalo NY. I am a mental health and substance use counselor. I am married and have a soon to be 2 year old son. I try to spend my free time reading as a form of a self-care as reading was always a passion of mine growing up. I am normally open to any genre but typically find myself reading thriller and mystery most times.

Hi, I am Pete. I am an outdoor educator on hiatus (hopefully only temporarily) from my job due to the pandemic. I am a nonfiction junkie but I do go for safe bets in fiction (classics) have been reading writers like Virginia Woolf a lot lately.

message 18: by Dana (new)

Dana (anotetoshelf) Hello everyone!
I’m Dana from Long Island, New York.
I’ve been reading for 40+ years and my love for it grows every day.
If you saw my tbr, you would find every genre conceivable. If asked what my favorite was, it would be contemporary fiction.

Every week there’s a new audiobook loaded and ready to go and a new book at the ready.
I love nothing more than reading others reviews or thoughts on books read or new releases.
The book community is definitely a warm and friendly bunch and one I am happy to be part of.

Nice to meet you John - I bet you have some stories. I just read and appreciated Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed.

I want to get down to Savannah, GA (my daughter's name and also named after the movie Savannah Smiles). I remember really liking Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Mexican Gothic is on my TBR!

Hi Ulyssicia! You must have a hard/stressful job at times - I can relate as an insurance adjuster. Reading is definitely a form of self care - but some books have been more enjoyable than others! Plus, if it's hard subject matter it can be somewhat stressful to me. :)

I hope you do Mindaugas - sounds like a lovely dream. I enjoy books about books/bookstores, or even a component of the book. The Shadow of the Wind was a knockout as was Three Junes.

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Hey Everyone!! I'm Lorrea (pronounced like Gloria without the G) from Silver Spring, MD. I'm a mother of three and have been reading most of my life. I love chatting about books and reviewing them as well.

message 27: by Ann (new)

Ann | 4 comments Hello Everyone,

I'm Ann from California. Since I'm retired ( and we're in lock down) I have lots of time to read. I like fiction, both classics and contemporary, and nonfiction. I don't read genre fiction very often although there was a period of about 2 years when I read mysteries only!

It's nice to see readers from so many different countries in this group.

message 29: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Hi everyone. I’m Angela, a retired research librarian . I live in upstate NY with my husband, who while doesn’t read as much as I do, supports my habit by having bought me every version of kindle that I’ve owned and many Amazon gift cards . Most of our family is in the area, so we are fortunate to see our grandchildren often (although not as much during these difficult times).
My favorite genres are literary fiction - historical and contemporary. I occasionally read non fiction, dystopian and fantasy only once in a while but I’m not a reader of thrillers, mystery, or horror. I listen to audiobooks on occasion as well . I’ve always loved new releases so I enjoy the opportunity to read advance copies through NetGalley and Edelweiss, though it’s at the expense of the big pile of other books on my kindle and the pile by my bed 📚! I’ve written reviews for almost every book I’ve read since mid 2014 and I really enjoy it. I love being on Goodreads and interacting with others who love to read . Looking forward to connecting in this new group!

Thanks for the invitation, Colleen!

Hi Ann - sounds like a dream retirement to me. And I have to constantly mix what I read up - I don't want to go from the same to the same all the time otherwise I'll get mixed up and feel like I'm reading the same book over and over all of the time.

It is nice to see the world being represented here!

message 34: by Libby (last edited Nov 01, 2020 07:34PM) (new)

Libby Thanks for the invitation, Colleen!

I enjoy most genres but have made an effort to read more non-fiction this year. I've been in a bit of a reading slump. My entire household, husband, myself, and adult son were hit with covid this month. I'm looking forward to meeting new book friends and kickstarting my reading again.

I'm a retired Registered Nurse and I've loved reading ever since Sally, Dick, and Jane.

But always up for finding new authors and discussing books of all genres. Thanks Colleen for the invite!

message 37: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Hello! Thanks for the invitation. I'm a retired mom & grandma/oma. I love mysteries, historical fiction, non-fiction & enjoy a smattering of fantasy/paranormal, young adult & romance. My oldest son is developmentally disabled & lives with me. He receives home-based services & I serve as his personal support worker. I'm in decent health for my age except for mobility/joint issues & hope I'll have many more years with him & his friends, but we do have a plan in place for when I'm no longer able to take care of him. He loves to go to used book stores with me & peruse the shelves. I let him buy books even though he doesn't read them. That probably says more about my book-buying addiction than his. LOL I like to read paperbacks & ebooks mostly. Most hardbacks are difficult to hold now. I don't listen as much as I did when commuting. I've been a Special Olympics coach for 15 years & was ready to give it up, but I miss them all so much now that I can't see them that I plan to give it at least one more year when we can become active again. Well, I've rattled enough. Nice to 'meet' you all! Happy Reading!

message 38: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 1 comments Thank you for the invitation, Colleen. I'm Jim, a customer service rep from New Jersey near Philadelphia, PA. While I will read any genre, I've lately read a lot of nonfiction, the last book I read being What's Wrong with the World (1910) by G.K. Chesterton.

Sally Dick and Jane! I think my first grade class was the last one in our school district to learn to read from those books. What a blast from the past!

message 42: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'm Jennifer. I was born in Texas, "raised" in Ohio, and "grew up" in Florida, where I've lived since 1977. I work in public safety and have been associated with it in one form or another for 35 years now. I have a degree in journalism and for some of those years was the editor of a magazine with a focus on public safety communications or, as it is more commonly thought of, 9-1-1. I have two thoroughly spoiled and beautiful cats, a terrific man, an obscene stock of kindle and audible books, and usually something (hopefully) good on the stove or in the oven.

Erin | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm Erin from Missouri, in the middle of the United States. I'm working from home at the moment, but my dog and my Mom are both enjoying having me home, so it works in the end for our odd little household. I've had a reading block for the first time ever, but normally I read a bit of everything. I prefer biography for nonfiction works and detective novels if I'm reading mysteries. Love fantasy over science fiction and MM is my favorite type of romance. In the end, if I find a good book, I take it home and love it and call it mine! Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Jim - welcome! Your last book sounds like it could be a clunker, and see it was written in 1910 - I'm sure the author thought there was plenty of problems back then, lol. 110 years later and you cannot make this stuff up. The book must have been decent for your 4-star rating. Any themes you see relevant to today?
