Details: The patron is probably in her late-20s. She remembers reading this book when she was 10-12. She said it was "A coming of age story about a boy who lived with his father. They were low income and his father was an alcoholic who worked at a factory. It wasn't fantasy or anything, just kind of a look at their life and the family dynamics as he took care of his dad."
I've found a couple of books that are little similar but with female protagonists, but the patron specifically remembers a male protag.
She didn't have any other details so I think this is a long shot! Thank you for your input!
