I read it sometime in the 1970s. I have searched on/off for a number of years on the internet trying to find it. As you can imagine, a title The Gift and a topic of psychic or second sight yields a huge number of webpages and books published with that title and topic. All I can remember is the title and it was about a young boy and a gift of either psychic powers or second sight, and that it disturbed him. It was more a domesticated every day book set in real life rather than something like Midwich Cuckoos.
