Let's get those nominations started for our December BOTM. With it being the holiday season, let's nominate books with a holiday theme. Any religion is acceptable as it may open our eyes to what others believe or not believe and also provides us an opportunity for acceptance of others. Remember our motto is CLEAN books. All books will be looked at for cleanliness. Looking for 5 nominations.

Hmm, I don't know a whole lot of YA holiday books. I think I'm going to go with Elsie's Holiday! 😁 I've already read these books but I've been wanting to reread them! Note: If anyone would want to start at the beginning of this series (as this is the second) I would love to do a buddy read!

I would like to nominate The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand. It is a retelling of A Christmas Carol. It looks really good.

I’d like to second the nomination of Elsie's Holidays at Roselands.

We need 3 more nominations for our December BOTM Group Read. Looking for books with a holiday theme. What do you want to read?

sumayyah (sumayyaha) Ok since I've never nominated anything here are a few. And disclaimer these don't have to do with Christmas (at least I don't think so), but these are the kinds of books I usually read around this time.

First, Wolf by Wolf has "no sex scenes. There are descriptive gore scenes. There is also a little bit of swearing but it is all in german" as a reviewer put it. Sorry, if this doesn't pass the approval test. (I may read it anyway because the plot just seems too good.) It is like an alternative history with a sprinkle of fantasy.

Second, and probably more favorable, Emily of New Moon I'm sure we're aware of how Christian L.M Montgomery's works are so I don't think a content warning is necessary(?) But yes, something wholesome for the winter

Third, The Thief it's pretty well known but here's what a reviewer said about the age range "I would say any age is appropriate for this book but being a little older( at least 14-15) makes it more enjoyable." and according to others no romance in the first book. I've been wanting to read these for a while, and I think it would be much more fun as a group. And yes, this is another fantasy book because I love fantasy in the winter, I'm always in the mood.

If anyone would like to, you can second any one of these :)

These all look really good to me; I've not really read anything like Wolf by Wolf before so that'd be something completely new! I've heard of Emily of New Moon before, but haven't read it - it looks really sweet though.
And The Thief has been on my TBR for a while among the many others on there haha so it would be nice to get it checked off 😂
Three completely different ones, (and also the first two that were nominated) but I'd be down for any of them :)

My exact thoughts! Wolf by Wolf is really a unique premise. I only ever watched the show for Emily and I've also had the thief on here for quite a while! If it's not the group pick, we should make it a buddy read?

I'll have to see if I can get ahold of it first, but that sounds good! Which book were you referring to?

Ooh! I would love to read the Emily books with y'all! I've already read the series but that was quite a few years ago so I would love to read them again!!

I'm sorry, I don't understand. What do you mean by which book I was referring to? I was nominating all three ...?

Great! I hope we do get to read them eventually.

Sorry - I meant which book did you want to read for a buddy read if it didn't get nominated? Did you mean the thief?

Haha no problem, its so hard when its all online 😂 I'll start having a look as to where I can get a copy, whether it be the group read or a buddy read :)

Sumayyah, you should invite for some Buddy Reads or nominate the above as BOTM. I really want a holiday theme for December. So far I have:

Elsie's Holidays at Roselands by Martha Finley
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

We need three more please. Try doing a google or goodreads search if you can't think of anything off the top of your head. I have also reached out to my local librarian for some suggestions. Hopefully he can recommend something too.

I'm sorry, I should do that instead, thank you. It's just that I have scoured my extensive to-read shelf and I can't find anything Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or any other December 'Holiday' themed books. I guess they just don't interest me.

I'll think about that next time though.

message 21: by sumayyah (new)

sumayyah (sumayyaha) Wait, actually, I take that back. I've found one that might interest me, but it has a twist. Hercule Poirot's Christmas

I nominate this because I love Agatha Christie.

Okay great. We have four, just need one more. I have another option but I don't want to take a nomination away from someone. So if no one else nominates by 15th, then I will add it. So far we have:

Elsie's Holidays at Roselands by Martha Finley
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand
Christmas Jars by Jason F Wright
Hercule Poirot's Christmas by Agatha Christie
