I remember reading this book as a kid but I have searched and searched and never been able to find it. I think this book branched into a series of 2 or 3 sequels the teen fiction genre.

Main character is a young boy (I think) who befriends a handful of ghosts in an old house, and when the house is sold to a new landowner the boy has to stop an exorcism to save his ghost friends. This is all I remember of the plot, and even still it's hazy.

One of the ghosts in particular if I remember right was a young girl who had died of thirst, and as a ghost was always holding a bowl of water she couldn't drink from, and crying into it. I can't remember details about the other ghosts, although there was something quirky about all of them related to the way they died.

I think I read the book sometime between 2001-2005?

Please help! I was so fond of this book and it's series as a kid but my mom (who read most books with us at the time) swears no such book exists. Starting to think I imagined it all, but I'm at least 75% sure I definitely read a book like this.
