A young boy wants to scare his family, but his siblings are all older and don't frighten easily. He tries to scare his dog with a mask, but it can smell him, so it's not afraid. He petulantly hides under his grandmother's bed. When she drops something, she puts her hand under the bed to get it and feels the boy's head. He finally succeeds in scaring the heck out of someone.

Why does the boy want to scare his family? Is it around Halloween?
It's a picture book. I 'think' the pictures were in black and white. I can't remember if it was Halloween, or if the kid just wanted to be scary. When his grandmother put her hand under the bed and felt a human head, he certainly succeeded. Kris wrote: "Brian, is this a children's novel or picture book?
