I think this could be Melina Marchetta’s Lumatere Chronicles. The first book is Finnikin of the Rock
Book one what i remember: Main character is told as a child he will be king. the kingdom is invaded by a cursed kingdom [all the women are raped by this kingdoms soldiers because the king claims that is the women at fault in the kingdom] (all their males are sterile until the end of the last book) so he is sent out of the kingdom. years later he is a fully trained as a warrior and he receives a message saying that the lost prince is found, so he goes to the message sender a priestess and they travel together to rescue the prince and gather an army together to take back the kingdom. along the way they pick up a young orphan (who tried to rape the priestess who is with them, after she spares his life he becomes a devoted servant to her
"I just wanted a poke" was something the kid said), he finds out later that the priestess is the princess who is the sister of the prince. she tells him that her brother is dead and she is the lost heir. they eventually take back the kingdom. the main character does become king by marrying the heir even though he said as a kid he didnt want to be.
the last book:
{i remember a passage about the main character of the previous book talking about how he sneaks away with the queen to have sex with her and how they are still in love to this day}
The main character (the kid who tried to rape the princess now full grown) is sent to the kingdom (the sterile one) to make peace. he is a child of the kingdpm. it turns out he was one of the last born males of the kingdom. along the way he falls in love with the princess (and she bares him a child)
The princess grew up with her mother "the kings whore" trying to kill her all the time and as soon as her first blood comes the king sends out for all the last born males to rape her in hopes that she bares him an heir. (she is raped repeatedly every night by her fathers counselor in who hopes that he may father the curse breaker)
All the males of this kingdom are curses by the priestess who died the day the main character and the princess are born. None shall be born until her child and the kings child create a child and it is born.
along the way civil war breaks out, he finds out he is the true heir to the throne and the princess is actually the child of the dead priestess. and that their union created the curse breaker a son.
peace is created.
in the end of the series the princess and main character are married.
