Melissa Barbosa | 6 comments YA: I read this book sometime in 2020. No idea what month. It is a series I read from amazon's free kindle thru my subscription - frustratingly, it isn't showing up on my borrowed history. A young woman has to pass a trial of making sure a fairy tale is carried thru as told in the classic tale to prevent the breakdown of her world along with other dimensions. She is a beginner witch. The lead male, high ranking "military" official, takes an interest in her and follows her. Her first trial, I believe, is making sure prince charming ends up with Princess Aurora. She actually finds the "princess," who isn't a literal princess and together they blackmail the prince into marrying her.
When she first teleports to sleeping beauty/prince charming's realm, she ends up in a fairy sex garden - where prince charming and entourage are hunting. One of the princes hunting party members is actually a member of the main characters local military, sent by the lead male, to watch over her and make sure the mission is completed successfully.
She befriends some trolls or ogres on her first mission - they love dressing up and role playing. They assist her in all her future missions.
The 2nd or 3rd book in the series comes from a different angle - it is told from a witch in a different coven's point of view. This witch needs to draw in and kill hansel and gretel, but she doesn't want to. The main character needs her to kill the kids for the fairy tale to play out properly. Of course, in the end they don't and the children come out unharmed.

Edit 10/15/20: The main character's mother is also a witch and she has gone crazy due to using her magic. It's a big recurring fear in the first book of the main character that she will end up like her mother.

Melissa, what's the genre (which we need to add to the header/topic title) - e.g., for adults not teens (= YA, in this group), fantasy, romance, erotica?

Taylor | 149 comments Not everything matches, but could it be the Unfortunate Fairy Tale series? I think the first one is UnEnchanted

message 4: by Kale (new)

Kale | 45 comments It doesn't match your description exactly, but possibly Storybound ?

Melissa Barbosa | 6 comments Kris - I added the genre. Thanks for letting me know. I apologize for my late reply and missing that criteria.

Melissa Barbosa | 6 comments No, neither unfortunate fairy tale series or storybound.

Erika | 27 comments It's not a perfect fit but could it be Spindles and Spells?
It's the first book in Grimm Academy series by Laura Greenwood. It does have to do with the Tale of Sleeping Beauty and it was published in 2020

Melissa Barbosa | 6 comments Nope, not the grimm academy series. this main character is not a part of the fairy tales. her "society" keeps the fairy tales on track - makes sure prince charming and cinderella meet, makes sure hansel and gretel get to the witches house to get eaten, etc. They're in another dimension and travel through portals to the fairy tale dimensions. The fairy tales are assigned to kids as sort of final trials, I believe, to graduate from their witch schooling.

Blue | 825 comments Do you know how many books are in the series?

Do you know if the book was a new release or were they older?

message 12: by Melissa Barbosa (new)

Melissa Barbosa | 6 comments OMG!!!! I found it! The series is "Bastan Hollow Saga" written by Jane Washington.

Thank you so much for your comments. Definitely helped me brain storm and remember more details more clearly, having to explain them.
