Berit | 641 comments most of the books I'm reading are fairly short I probably could push it to eight books I'm pretty quick and my kids have that week off for Presidents week or something :-) I do everything on my phone on the app I don't think I can add and links Scarlet is by Marissa Mayer the lunar Chronicles series :-)I also can't spell sorry :-) bonus points I probably could read more than one Janet event of it which would serve me in the series challenge that I wasn't going to join but perhaps I will

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments That's great, Berit - when you've decided which books you want to read, we have another thread for posting our reading plans, here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you go there and make a post, you can post the books you plan to read, and which categories they fall into, like others have done. And if you use the 'add book/author' link to post the name of your books, you don't need to be able to spell the author's names, because it will automatically link to them. (I have a feeling your autocorrect is having fun with Janet Evanovich!) :-)

message 253: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, never mind, I see you said you are using the app and it doesn't do it. Well, if you just write the title of the book and the author, that will be fine.

message 254: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Thanks I do everything on my phone my kids took over the laptops :-) I will try to spell as well as I can, but that is not my strength. The funny thing is when I type my name first and last and always tells me it's Miss spelledI would absolutely love if all of you told me where you live, I just find this also fascinating.I live in southern California.

message 255: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Okay, I've added you to the spreadsheet, Berit - if you find the column with you name at the top, you can read down the column and make sure I've got the books correct. Here is the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

(Oh, and I live in England) :-)

message 256: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Thank you so much for all your help, I truly appreciate it :-) I've never been to England or anywhere in Europe for that matter.what is so funny or ironic should I say about my spelling and grammar being so bad is I was raised by an English teacher :-)

message 257: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments You're welcome, Berit. :-) It looks like you just write as you speak/think, sort of stream of consciousness almost, rather than it being wrong grammar per se. Although the auto-correct thing might get confusing if it starts doing that with other authors - I wouldn't have realised 'Ivana bitch' meant 'Evanovich' if Stephanie hadn't posted saying she likes the Stephanie Plum series! :-)

message 258: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Something I'm curious about - you know the couples that have the names of people from our group: Almeta, Janice and Connie (Almeta and Kermit, Royce or Hadrian and Janice, Daniel Craig and Connie)? Well, I have never heard of these, and there are no brackets explaining who they are - are they actual couples from books, or is it some in-joke to do with these group members? And I wonder whether these might be something to do with the bonus points.

message 259: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, and Johnny Depp and Debra - now I am looking at the comments on that thread, and I guess it is an inside joke. I wonder if those ones are to do with the bonus points though.

message 260: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Yes, I ramble! My kids make me very aware of that when I text them. Texting is probably the main issue since I only seem to type when I text :-) so this is a learning thing for me! I Appreciate all your patience! Maybe I can figure out the website on my phone, I've had a little trouble with that but I will try again :-)

Sarah | 18550 comments Gail wrote: "Something I'm curious about - you know the couples that have the names of people from our group: Almeta, Janice and Connie (Almeta and Kermit, Royce or Hadrian and Janice, Daniel Craig and Connie)?..."

Ha ha! Not exactly an inside joke as such. It has been widely discussed on here about each of the group member's loves for their matches. I have to say I'm quite surprised Spike a.k.a James Marsters wasn't paired with half a dozen of us the amount we talk about him ;-) As for the bonus points, you guys are going to send yourselves crazy trying to work out what J'mom has in store. I really wouldn't worry about it.

message 262: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I thought the "date" might be that 2 people are reading the same book? We have at least one of those, but really it could be anything.

message 263: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments I think I know what I will read for the Toppler week, I have six books picked out and ready to read.I am assuming I just post them as I complete them that week, am I right? If there is any category that needs to be filled please let me know and I will find a book for that!

message 264: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59893 comments Since reading the Riyria Revelations, I've only been raving about Royce and Hadrian every chance I get. I've been known to say things like "Love me some Royce and Hadrian".

Debra made it very clear on the threads that she was claiming Johnny Depp and would tolerate nobody else reigning in on her territory.

So, not inside jokes. It's just like starting a new job or a new school. People joke about the things that have gone on in the past. You'll pick it up gradually. If unsure, just ask. We're always happy to revisit the craziness.

Shanna_redwind | 228 comments Gail wrote: "Shanna, that is a possibility, although I can't think of anything we could do to prepare for that!"

Nope, I don't think we could. :) If it is that, it would just be a bwahahaha moment for jmom. I was just throwing a thought out there.

message 266: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Hehe, Sarah, I'm not driving myself crazy. It's fun to guess. Although of course it's possible jmom hasn't yet decided herself and will look at all our guesses and make the bonus something completely different!

message 267: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, Janice, I didn't read all the pre-Toppler threads leading up to it, so I must have missed all that. I just figured I'd wait till there were some definite rules and read those, so I didn't get confused! :D

Well, I've put four books on the spreadsheet for you, Berit - the four you said you were reading. Are those still the same? There is a thread for posting your plans, which I linked to earlier, but there will also be a thread for posting during the Toppler when you complete your books, so I can tick them off on the spreadsheet and work out points.

message 269: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Oh yes I am doing those four, as well as two of the Stephanie Plum booksNumber 19 and 20, the titles a skate me right now :-) it is pretty early here! I'll post them later.

message 270: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Okay here they are notorious 19 and tacked on 20 :-) also found another super short book that meets the criteria of over 175 pages called the truth about Alice :-) will read that if time permits.

message 271: by Marie Claude (new)

Marie Claude (mariecg2001) | 1030 comments I had a week vacation left and decided to take it for the Toppler... so will probably be able to read way more than 4 books :) I will keep you posted for the other titles, but will probably choose them as I go along since there won't be any known "obligation" by then... :)

Well, I'm just glad that the Toppler is in this week, since I will have the saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday and friday off (with the children at school for 3 of those days) - so lots of reading time (the laundry and dust can wait...).

That's the hardest bit, the waiting. :)

message 289: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments I know and the timing. Trying to figure out if I can squeeze in a book after I finish the one I'm reading right now before the Toppler. I do not like leaving a book unfinished :-) ;-)

That's what I dislike the most, too! I'm currently reading a book which has 955 pages (The Crimson Petal and the White) and I'm not halfway trough, yet...! I hope I will be able to finish it before the Toppler, but I doubt it... :(

What do you think? Do you like it? I read it at a hard time, I was hurting physically and psychologically, and it helped me going through, in part because it helped me focus when the medication I was taking tended to make my mind wander...

message 292: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments Yes, I do like it! I read a lot of historical novels and classics written in the 19th century, but this is so different. The 5 main characters are so different and yet they are so the same - and you can feel for them and understand them all. I think it is very well written. I can understand how it can help you focus, when your mind starts to wander.
This book must have lots of special and difficult memories for you, Marie Claude. I'm glad it helped you through such a difficult time! I hope you are better now!

message 293: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I am going to be late checking in Saturday because I am a hostess for a tea for a RL club. I just didn't want anyone to panic and wonder why I wasn't making contact.

Lucky you! My current book has 955 pages and I'm on page 506! No way I'll be able to finish that before the Toppler... (By the way it is: The Crimson Petal and the White - very good, when you like historical novels!).

message 297: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments You are the second person I know that is reading that book right now. I like most everything which is a blessing and a curse :-) good luck and finishing it before tomorrow.

message 298: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I have 2 of my books and will be picking the third one in the library in half an hour.

message 299: by Esther (new)

Esther (estame) I am all set and ready to go too! If I am quiet it's because I'm trying to fit in reading with a busy schedule and won't have much time for chatting this time, sorry! Anyway, no need to send out a search party - I shall be doing my bit :-)

message 300: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I have my first book all ready to go, just need to finish the one I'm currently reading. The Toppler starts at 3am Sunday for me, I won't be setting my alarm, but I plan to spend all day Sunday curled up with my book.
