That sounds good, Connie - I guess we first have to find out if Tejas Janet's book counts as a torso.

I thought The Color of Magic was set on the back of a turtle - or is this another book with the same title as Terry Pratchett's?

Sarah | 18550 comments Look at you with your third thread. I suppose C is the third letter in the alphabet and you have three C words in your team name so why not three threads ;-)

Haha - yes, I made a third thread, so I wouldn't get confused! But I'm still getting confused. We need to find a strategy for everyone sorting out which books they will do. Hopefully once a few people have said which books they are doing and I put them on the list, then other people will take a look and see what tasks aren't taken and find books to read for them.

I can take "Shooting" Read a book with some serious gunplay, or some type of weapon being used. I am not sure what book I'll read yet, but I can easily find something to fill that slot.

Thanks, Connie. I hope we can all find books we want to read and fit the tasks.

message 113: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I'll do the book set in south america.

message 114: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Okay, Connie, I've put you down for a gun book, and Paakhi, I've put you down for a series book.

I could do a South American book myself, but I'll wait, as I've put myself down for two of the bonus tasks already, and there will be more people coming and they might want the South American one. I think I will commit to reading three books for this challenge, but I'll first just say the two I've said (the eyes task and the Africa task), and then wait to see which tasks others claim.

message 115: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Sounds good to me.
So I am committed to the legs book and the shooting book. Just checking to be sure. I know I have the torso book on the back burner just in case we do a second round...

message 116: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, I cross-posted with you, Sandra - I'll put you down for South America. :-)

message 117: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Connie, I've put you down for those, and removed you from torso. I guess it's all still a bit tentative at the moment, and not everyone is here yet.

message 118: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Can I just clarify - when people are putting down several categories for their books, are those just options from which to choose one, or are we supposed to be putting each book under as many categories as it will fit? I thought each book could only go into one category.

message 119: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Hey, the book I have that's set in Canada is by an author new to me so it could count for that instead under hobbies.

I think we're just looking at options so we can get the bonus categories filled up first. After that, we can read whatever - except it might be good to attempt to check off every task one time if we can - might pay off with the mystery bonus. Then again, might not.

Sarah | 18550 comments Gail wrote: "Can I just clarify - when people are putting down several categories for their books, are those just options from which to choose one, or are we supposed to be putting each book under as many categ..."

A book can only count for one category but during the planning phase, it might be good to know if a book covers more than one task so you can ensure that all tasks are covered (in the bonus sections). Did I just say that? Best not be seen to be helping the opposition...

message 122: by Ava Catherine (last edited Jan 24, 2015 11:25AM) (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Yes, remove me from torso. That makes things much more simple. Thanks, Gail.

message 123: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I'm just thinking it will make the spreadsheet confusing if I've put the same book in several different boxes to represent the different categories - it will look like it's been read several times.

I suppose there might be a mystery bonus for books that fall under several categories, but I'm also thinking that would be an incredibly complicated bonus for jmom to work out, and realistically she's probably going to make a bonus that is quite clearcut to calculate, rather than give herself extra work.

On the other hand, if two people are doing one task, but one of the books also counts as a task that no one else is doing, it makes sense to switch that book to the other task.

message 124: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Gail wrote: "Ah, I cross-posted with you, Sandra - I'll put you down for South America. :-)"

No problem. I posted in our third thread my options by now.
Don't worry and don't get stressed, we have many days until the toppler, we'll figure it out. It seems that many people in the group don't even started their gophering, and we already have filled many tasks, so we'll be fine. :)

message 125: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Kerri wrote: "Good idea, I will commit to reading 3 to begin with. I have a feeling we haven't got all the information yet as there is another reserved spot right under the points. I reckon we should make a star..."

That reserved spot is a 'just in case' spot. I usually forget to reserve any :) You have all the info except the unknown bonus info.

message 126: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments That's good to know, jmom.

Sandra, yes, lots of people haven't even arrived yet to say what books they will do, so I guess it's best to wait till more people arrive. I think what I'll do now is turn off my computer and do other things, or else I could be trying to sort this out all evening!

So then people can arrive and sort out what books they are going to read, and how to fit them in with other people's choices and try to cover the various bonus tasks - people can sort it all out between themselves here in this chat thread, and then post their choices on the other thread. And when I come back onto here tomorrow or Monday, I will look on the other thread, and hopefully it will be more clearcut and I will start putting people on the main list there. :-)

I recently listened to The Assassination and really enjoyed it.

message 129: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I am getting really confused about who is doing what, I am trying to find the gaps that need to be filled.

message 130: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments That's because everybody is just looking at what they COULD read and not at what they definitely WILL read (=gophering). So, don't worry, everything will become clearer in a while. And tasks will be swapped etc.

I know, I'm just trying to plan what to read that will be the best help. I've put on the other thread what I will read. I've given up on the bonus books as I think they've been covered and starting on the couples.

message 132: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I have added names to the bonus tasks in the other thread. There are only three remaining ones to be covered. Kerri, it should be clearer now.

message 133: by Gail (last edited Jan 24, 2015 12:52PM) (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Kerri, I put you down for the legs one, because Connie's leg book wasn't approved by jmom, as the legs weren't the main focus. Are you still okay to do the leg book you'd initially said?

message 134: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Gail wrote: "I have added names to the bonus tasks in the other thread. There are only three remaining ones to be covered. Kerri, it should be clearer now."

thanks Gail, would you add mine too please.

message 135: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments my legs book wasn't approved by Jmom, so I am going with Lolita for my leg book.

message 136: by Gail (last edited Jan 24, 2015 12:52PM) (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Kerri, I'm only adding the bonus tasks to begin with, to make sure we get all those covered. Then I'll start adding others. Hope that's okay. In case you missed my previous post, I've put you down for the leg book you initially said you'd read.

message 137: by Kerri (last edited Jan 24, 2015 12:53PM) (new)

Kerri Gail wrote: "Kerri, I'm only adding the bonus tasks to begin with, to make sure we get all those covered. Then I'll start adding others. Hope that's okay."

ok I will take other persons tbr and also occupation don't want date to have. I will take occupation want date to have as well and find something that fits if you like?

message 138: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Connie wrote: "my legs book wasn't approved by Jmom, so I am going with Lolita for my leg book."

Ah, okay - in that case, Kerri doesn't need to do the leg book. I'll remove you from that, Kerri, and I'll add your other books when I move onto the non-bonus tasks. :-)

message 139: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Ah, my head's spinning now. Kerri, you don't have to do the leg one now. I'll put you down for the TBR one. I'll add the occupation ones later because they're not bonus tasks. I really want to focus on the bonus tasks first to make sure they get covered. Not everyone in the group has turned up to the thread yet though, so don't feel you have to cover all the not-yet-covered bonus ones unless there is a book you particularly want to read that fits them.

message 140: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments We have only two remaining bonus tasks to be taken now:

• Read a book set in an alien world or on some type of spaceship
• Crafting – Read a book with a main character does some type of craft for a hobby

message 141: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments Can anyone think of any books they've read that fit either of those tasks? My mind is drawing a blank. I barely read any sci-fi, and I'm not even sure what sort of things count as 'crafting'.

message 142: by Kerri (last edited Jan 24, 2015 01:20PM) (new)

Kerri I remember seeing some kind of mystery book with knitter's club in the title. Death By Cashmere. I don't know that I can find the book though.

message 143: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I can think of a few set on Mars --

Martian Time-Slip 262 pages.

The Martian 384 pages (on long side for a toppler).

message 144: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I just found a list called good yarns:knitting fiction. It looks like a heap of romance books, I'll see if there is anything there I might like to read and be able to get my hands on.

message 145: by Kerri (new)

Kerri Does anyone know if Miss Marple is a knitter? Those books came up on my knitting search.

message 146: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments I could read Worse than Senseless Things by J. Battle for the alien world.

message 147: by Shanna_redwind (new)

Shanna_redwind | 228 comments I could read a book set on an space ship, I read a lot of science fiction

message 148: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Drawing from previous books I've read, here are some more books set in alien world or on spaceship:

A Wrinkle in Time has substantial action taking place on the planets of Uriel and Camazotz.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy takes place on a spaceship.

The Left Hand of Darkness takes place on the icy world of Winter.

The Dispossessed features the planet of Annares.

message 149: by Kerri (new)

Kerri ok I found a book I could read for crafting The Forgotten Seamstress. Let me know if you want me to do that instead of one of the couples reads I've put down.

message 150: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments haha, I think we have those 2 covered as well...
