La Tonya Jordan | 834 comments October is only days away.... Let's read books where the book covers are shiny, or beautiful to look at, or with light sources on the cover. We look forward to seeing your selections. Enjoy Reading, 📚

Post your book selection, thoughts, and comments on this thread.

Currently Reading:
X-World by Jörg Arndt Broken Made Beautiful Daily Devotions of Hope and Encouragement for the Healing Journey by Allyson Long

From my planned October books those fit this topic for me:
When God Breaks Your Heart Choosing Hope in the Midst of Faith-Shattering Circumstances by Ed Underwood A Kingsbury Collection Where Yesterday Lives / When Joy Came to Stay / On Every Side by Karen Kingsbury : Where Yesterday Lives by Karen Kingsbury When Joy Came to Stay by Karen Kingsbury On Every Side by Karen Kingsbury
Moved further down my reading list (in the meantime):
Come Sundown by Nora Roberts True Blue by David Baldacci Three and a Half Minutes by Caroline Fyffe A Merciful Silence (Mercy Kilpatrick, #4) by Kendra Elliot Death Down Under (Ruby Bay Mystery #1) by Samantha Silver How to Choose a Guy in 10 Days (Chick Flick Club, #1) by Lila Monroe In the Clearing (Tracy Crosswhite, #3) by Robert Dugoni The Bromance Book Club (Bromance Book Club, #1) by Lyssa Kay Adams Deep Blue Sea by Valerie Howard (now Deep Blue Sea by Valerie Howard )

These are only those I already had on my GR-October-shelf though there are many, many more in my Kindle October-folder and I'm really, really bad at reading books from a planned list so I hope to read them all (but don't expet it) and I'll add some more as I read them. I'll update on a regular basis.

If your edition is not on GR yet and you'd like me to add it, please PM me (if possible add a link to an edition with this cover or let me know if you could scan it and send it - I'd give you my e-Mail-address than). I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it this week since I caught a cold yesterday but I'll do my best.

All the silvery bits are shiny silver foil, like stars.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 5 comments However, I will be reading this for October

Bunny Lake is Missing - Evelyn Piper

and as a photographer, i love the way the photograph on the cover has been artfully shot in the falling light, with her skin in its brilliance.

It looks like this. I don't know if this is the exact edition; it's doesn't have a barcode or isbn.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 31 comments It's a very fast book and is made up of plays on words.

I do apology Audrey. Your cover is much more prettier than the one I found. Thank you for the update. Enjoy Reading, 📚

Thank you Audrey. I think I will put this on my TBR and try to read it before year-end. Enjoy Reading, 📚

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 31 comments It's a children's classic; everyone should read it at least once. :)

I'm glad you found your edition. Even if books don't have barcodes you can find the ISBN (at least ISBN10 for older books) on the copyright page. As far as I've seen in the past there are only a few exceptions to the ISBN - in Germany these were book club publishers where they wanted to see if there's any interest in this book before they decided to generate one (or not) and a few very small independent publications (mostly for churches, non-profit organisations or similar groups)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments Since I didn't finish The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway yesterday I can add it here. I read this classic several years ago in German (from my library) and loved it so much I wanted to re-read it in English and found this in-expensive copy. Only when I downloaded the book yesterday I noticed it's an illustrated edition and for the very first time thought it adds to the reading experience.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments I just finished Neu entdeckte Freude by Merlin R. Carothers another of my books I expected to finish in September (even if they didn't fit a challenge) only to realise it fits here :-D

It's a very intense Christian living book. I struggled with it because I've seen how much work I'm still facing in my life and that's not something I like to be aware of. I'm sure it's not the last time I've read it. Looking back all of his books are that way and any I grabbed fit perfectly the issues I was working on at that time in my spiritual life - I only hope I'll mange to make the changes I want work long-term and I'll see the effects more visibly this time.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments My last three fitting here were: Home Before Dark (Carolina Moon #1) by Christy Barritt Control Girl Lessons on Surrendering Your Burden of Control from Seven Women in the Bible by Shannon Popkin No Wound Too Deep For The Deep Love Of Christ by Lisa Buffaloe

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 220 comments I finished The Shack by William Paul Young yesterday - not only the cover is beautiful. It's such a moving story.
