Children's/Teen Sci-fi with Elemental Magic and cool element-based societal structure

Was leant this book by a teacher in 2013-2014

MC's name begins with a "D" (I think) and the title is fairly long and includes MC's name.

Mostly all I remember of this book is the world of the elements and how it worked.

Everyone had elemental power, although no-one could control more than two, and your elemental power dictated your social status. For example:
- Earth and earth/water users were farmers
- Air users were nobility
- Air/fire users were considered sacred, and were priests and priestesses

Also the MC lives on a starship I think because Earth is supposedly destroyed but he spends most of the book or a good section of it on Earth experiencing this elemental world somehow.

Oh yeah and the MC has control over all four elements. Because, of course, they're the MC.
