SOLVED. YA/middle grade coming of age story of a boy with a cool girl and an El Camino, possibly that he had moved to a new town when he met her, possibly West Coast. [s]

The El Camino is the main clue here as it was a big part of the boys life/ identity but I haven’t been able to find it by any amount if googling. This book really made me want an El Camino! It’s very much a coming of age book- he either had recently moved or was just a loner but encounters this girl who he is quickly enamored with. She seems very cool and confident- I believe they’re both supposed to be around 16. I want to say it was based in California or Oregon but that might not be right. I think he ends up losing his virginity to the girl. I checked this book out from the library one summer because it was on an Indie List flyer of all the new and recommended books that month or season. It was sadly before you could track your checkout history. My guess was it was published between 2002-2004.
