No I haven't Sarah - I'll try your book for you. Gather the Bones by Alison Stuart

No trouble. I put in 'gather the bones alison' and then clicked search.

I was using an identical composite search and was getting nothing - obviously just a bug in the code. Switching off then on again did the trick!

That's good Sarah - there's nothing worse!!

Meg (megscl) | 326 comments This is happening to me now Sarah! It just started this afternoon, on both my phone and computer. Is anyone else having issues?

Sarah | 1543 comments Meg wrote: "This is happening to me now Sarah! It just started this afternoon, on both my phone and computer. Is anyone else having issues?"

Hi Meg - yes, it's happening to me again, today, too! It seems to be fixed by closing the browser and re-opening. It's a real pain in the neck though. I just did a search for "All the President's Men", which is a pretty well-known book and Goodreads couldn't find it on the regular search!

message 306: by Meg (new)

Meg (megscl) | 326 comments Closing and opening isn't working for me. I've had some books i can't find, but if i search for the author they are in the authors page. Other books come up as normal. Very annoying!

message 307: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79985 comments Mod
Yes it's now an issue. I've found by putting the ISBN in, it finds it. The only problem with that is finding the book to find the ISBN. If you don't have the book in your possession, go to amazon and get the ISBN or ASIN there :)

Sarah | 1543 comments This isn't really a "biggie" in the scheme of things, but I've found the "Compare books" function in friend requests hasn't been working for a couple of days now, delivering a "Page Unavailable" error when accessed.

I always use the "compare books" link when I'm considering new friend requests - I've become a bit wary of all those creepy "Hello" messages!

message 316: by Sarah (new)

My compare function works.. but I've been deleting and blocking lots of 'hello' messages - and now have to be much more discerning.. you probably know what I mean.

Yes, don't accept and block. You may also find friends that haven't been online for years. I've been doing some cleaning up..

message 324: by Colin (new)

Colin Baldwin I had an interesting occurance. I looked at my 'following list' and saw quite a few people with 'pending friend request' - I deleted this, then resent and got some responses. None of them say they received the first friend request.
Gremlins do exist in the GRs system, eh?

And here I was thinking they were ignoring me...

message 325: by Niamh (new)

Niamh | 497 comments I've been experiencing a bug recently, where I have to sign in almost every day, despite ticking "keep me signed in" every time this happens. It's not a major problem, but I have been caught out a couple times where I return to an open tab and try to edit a comment or update my progress, and I need to sign in, and when I do, I've lost my place, I'm back at the home screen. Anyone else been experiencing this lately? I'm using Chrome on my phone, with Goodreads in Web View so I can more easily edit challenge posts.

message 326: by Clare (new)

Clare Snow (claresnow) | 521 comments Yes. It's annoying me so much. I wondered if GR was doing it on purpose to make me download the app. I refuse to comply 😬 i'm using phone web browser in web view too

Janelle | 635 comments Yes happening to me too. Very annoying!

Just discussing this in another group. Another of GR's hiccups I'm guessing! Even ticking the 'leave me logged on' box doesn't make any difference! Very frustrating!

message 329: by Colin (new)

Colin Baldwin Yep - having sale issues. Gremlins are running around. CB

Yes, same issue, I've been having this issue for a while now.

message 331: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1543 comments I've also had this issue - I'd thought it was just me, as I recently did a big update of Chrome, but apparently not... Super annoying, though!

I've also had a couple of occasions where GR has required me to complete a Captcha with every single tweak I make to a review I'm writing (which for me is a lot of tweaking!), and occasionally the Captcha isn't visible but GR won't let me proceed without completing it. The requirement to do the Captchas seems fairly ad hoc - is anyone else getting them? Maybe it's set off by an algorithm that sees a user writing too many reviews in a set period or making too many amendments?

message 332: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79985 comments Mod
I've read a few people having that issue too Sarah! I'd be a shame if they didn't notify us of work which would affect the 'normal' run of GR!

I usually use the laptop for reviewing, but even then I find I get signed out more often now. Perhaps they've gone overboard with stopping criminals from leaving secret messages or something!

Gotta look for those coded classified ads that tell spies where today's drop site is. 😉😎

message 337: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 635 comments A new thing that’s annoying me is that when I click on a book now it’s going to beta first, and I have to click to leave it and even though I leave goodreads open in my browser it’s returning to beta after a while. I really hate the new look page so I’m finding it quite frustrating.

message 338: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Oh I haven't come across that yet Janelle! I was dreading it - it's the same old 'why change something that's not broken' but they're determined!

message 339: by Sarah (last edited May 26, 2022 02:47AM) (new)

Sarah | 1543 comments Anyone else experiencing issues saving reviews? After a whole lot of toing and froing whilst trying to save a review of The Island by Adrian McKinty, I eventually established that it was Goodreads own "add book/author" codes that were causing the save to fail, due to containing "blocked" content. With all the book / author links removed, it saves normally! (it hasn't escaped me that those same links are perfectly acceptable within this comment!)

message 340: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79985 comments Mod
The only thing along a similar line was trying to add the blurb from Amazon to a book (with my librarian hat on) and it kept saying there was unacceptable content. I ended up leaving it with no blurb, which is a pet hate!! I'd say it's another GR glitch Sarah!

I agree that everyone is different, Mabel, which is why I actually prefer reviews over just stars. Even my own stars probably vary, according to my mood when I was reading something, but at least if I explain my opinion, it might help others decide. I hope. 😊

Meg (megscl) | 326 comments I'm having so many problems with the goodreads website. It doesn't let me save reviews, edit or post comments, search.... it just turns up a broken link. It has always happened occasionally, but now it is happening 90% of the time when I try. Does anyone else have this issue?

It seems to happen on both my phone and my computer. I access goodreads through Chrome. The app seems to work, but there's a lot you can't do on the app

message 348: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79985 comments Mod
The app is definitely not user friendly. I only use my laptop, although on my phone I can read and answer posts. But anything like reviews are always done on my laptop and thankfully I haven't had any problems. I also use Chrome.

I use my laptop and Chrome Meg. Your problem sounds as though it has more to do with you specifically. Perhaps Goodreads needs to be reloaded.
My only problem is an increased use of "I am not a robot". I hate those.

message 350: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I use my laptop most of the time, too, but I haven't had any Robot queries. The first rule of computing I learned - must be 40 years ago now - is CDWT. Computers Do Weird Things. (includes all devices)
