The plot of the book was the MC hunted monsters from another dimension in the future where part of the west coast is submerged. She has the help of a higher dimensional being who communicated with her via texting. She rescued some kids that have super powers that kind of match up with sea creatures. One is killed during the escape. The rest were a girl in a wheel chair that could swim really well, another girl who could shapeshift, and those are the only ones I remember but there were 2 other boys. One of the boys had a crush on the girl in wheel chair and the other guy was gay I think? The girl who could shapeshift ended up becoming the MC's love interest.
The MC had a younger brother who I think was named Ben. Their parents were dead, but the MC couldn't remember anything about it because (view spoiler)[the higher dimensional being was suppressing it (hide spoiler)]. Whenever someone mentioned anything strange, people would reply with something about the water? I can't remember. When the MC and the other kids defeat the evil eldritch being, (view spoiler)[it erases her existence from everyone's minds except their's (hide spoiler)].
I remember that at least twice the higher dimensional being used the metaphor of watching a bacteria on a microscope to describe her relationship with our plane of existence. Like both times it opened with "Imagine you're watching this little bacteria move on the glass plane. It can't look up. There is no up for it. It can't see you."
