Of course Charles Dickens's bitter irony about the due process in Law had reached new heights in Bleak House, but you're right in that this does not deserve to alway be is in its shadow in people's minds!

That is a fabulous line, Lee!! I love that you occasionally read Dickens aloud. I do that sometimes too, it's great to see I'm not alone in that

I wonder if Dickens was always reading his writing aloud - perhaps in his head. Because even the “dullest” passages he wrote take on a new complexion when read aloud.

Yes, he did! He used to stand in front of a mirror and "act it out". His daughter Mamie describes him doing this in My Father As I Recall Him when he had forgotten that she was there "asleep" on the settee in his study.
