Love a good hockey romance. 🏒

Hayde | 207 comments I have decided on a book. Took a bit finding one that my library had available on ebook.

The Bromance Book Club

Busy Right Meow (busyrightmeow) | 138 comments I remember really liking Teddy and Sara’s story so exited to hear what you think Katelyn!

Hayde, I saw that book too and it was one of the ones I was deciding on.

I am going with Outmatched by Kristen Callihan since I already have the book.

You will have to let me know what you think. I haven't gotten to that one yet.

J | 263 comments Awesome!

I am planning on picking the first in list. L.J.Shen's and the premise is quite different.

In the Unlikely Event

message 59: by Hayde (new)

Hayde | 207 comments Jans, that one also caught my attention but neither of the libraries I subscribe to had the book.

message 60: by J (new)

J | 263 comments I am guessing its quite a toxic relationship story. But I feel like reading.

The Bromance Book Club - I have no idea.

Katelyn | 546 comments Alright team, just had dinner and now I am going to start my book! I will check in soon.

message 62: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn | 546 comments Hey! I wanted to share something with you all that I have found recently. There is this facebook page which I will link below. Every night she makes a post linked to an amazon wishlist where she pulls together free books from amazon for that day. I usually find 4 or 5 books each night that are free! I almost wish I didn't find this page because my kindle has so many books on it! This could possibly help you with some book choices for our later prompts.

This had hit me on the head, and knocked me out that I forgot where I lived, moved and even existed.

I had only read Vicious from L.J.Shen before, and I could guarantee you that the author carves her male MCs with passion. They aren't perfect. Especially Malachy is far from perfect. There were times I wanted to slap him and yank his head for being such a grandeur asshole, but the beauty in the writing is, I ended up loving him.

He is one of the unique MCs who is raw, rough, different, yet leaves a taste on my tongue because there is a part of me that resonates with his heart.

And Aurora! She is devastatingly innocent. And for every minute she had been in the dark, being pushed and pulled by everyone she loved, waging a war against her morality and passion, she became true and close to life. I wanted her to get everything she wished for. From the moments she sets her foot on Ireland, till the end of the book, I wanted her to get everything she wanted.

Which is so much important because I need to love the MCs and root for them, however flawed they are. I don't want them to be helpless and hopeless shits. L.J.Shen knows that thin line, and the art to make us accept their flaws rather to rub it on our face.

I blame the book, Katelyn. It truly kept me awake the whole night. Now, I am stuck in work, knee-deep and I have to extend my work time. Probably till mid-night.

This is my second Kristen Callihan book and actually my first Samantha Young book. I really enjoyed Dear Enemy by Kristen Callihan and heard so many great things about Samantha Young so I was intrigued and not disappointed at all! I basically devoured this Enemies-to-Lovers/Fake Relationship book in the course of a few hours with a smile on my face the entire time reading it.

Parker (h) surprised me in the best way. Usually, nerdy and/or rich heroines fall into a certain stereotype but she was the best combination. She is smart, feisty, and kind despite growing up in a privileged family. She is a people-pleaser but has a back bone. The banter between her and Rhys (H) was so amazing.

Rhys (whose name I just love) is so guarded and carries the weight of so much emotional baggage on his shoulders. Parker described him best when she called him a boxer with a gigantic heart and secretly gentle soul. Rhys is clearly a protector and feels like it is his responsibility to hold everything together and not worry others with his troubles. Parker is able to see through this and show him that he can be vulnerable and that she can be his perfect complement, protecting him in her own little way.

Besides the relationship, I loved how the authors touched on gender inequality in Parker's workplace. Despite Parker being extremely competent at her job, it made me so sad to see the blatant sexism that she had to deal with but sadly I'm sure it's a realistic portray. But, if you're planning to read this book (which I hope you strongly consider), the paintball scene was great and I'll just leave it at that.

I could do without the final conflict in the end but it was a minor blip and I can overlook it. Overall, I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a great enemies to lovers read.

J | 263 comments Super Kitty! Definitely going into my tbr. I love unique and stereotype breaking characters. Thanks for your detailed review. It makes me want to read this book. :)

message 73: by Hayde (new)

Hayde | 207 comments So I changed books midway. I couldn’t continue with “The Bromance Club”. It was a great premise but execution not perfect. To be fair I was bias after the second page. The author has one of the characters speak in Spanish (a language I’m fluent in) and she completely messes the line. You can clearly see Google translated was use. After that, the book just couldn’t recover for me. I might try reading it later on.

Let’s move on to the book I read....”In the unlikely event”. And wow...FIRE! I started it last night around midnight and just like Jans I paid the prize at work for that. I had to exercise so much self control putting this book down. I wanted more of their story. I won’t give spoilers but I’ll say this, I can’t look at a chocolate bar the same way again!

Jans, your review was amazing!

Fair warning this book has many trigger topics. If I listed all of them it would be full of spoilers. I kept editing my rating on this book because I just couldn’t decide where I stood with it and guess what I came to realize is I’m just like Rory, I know I love this book but there are so many toxic relationships in this book that I feel I shouldn’t love it. So in the end I am giving this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, why because even with all the angst and manipulation in this book, I LOVE IT! I won’t be able to look at a 🍫 chocolate bar the same, and it’s for the better.

I was actually very hesitant going into this one because I am not a big fan on the fake dating troupe, but this was so cute! I think I enjoyed it so much because TK and Sara had a past that they talked about often. I loved the bickering and seeing them come together again. The only thing that I missed was I wish it had more hockey. I like my hockey romances to have a few games, but the relationship was fun to watch grow. I look forward to reading the rest in this series.

Busy Right Meow (busyrightmeow) | 138 comments I just posted our completion post to the main tracking thread so we'll see!

I'm so glad you liked TK and Sara's story. I remember thinking it was really cute given how much the previous books had hinted at their history too. I want to say Bailey's book (next one) didn't have that much hockey either though. :(

I will probably still read it, but take a break and maybe read a different hockey series. Since my hockey team lost in the playoffs, I have wanted to read more hockey romances.

Katelyn | 546 comments Alright team,

I think I am going to read Fire and Foreplay (Hope Falls, #14) by Melanie Shawn .

I own SOOOOO many of her books on my kindle, but I have yet to read one.

Busy Right Meow (busyrightmeow) | 138 comments @Katelyn

Interesting to see your thoughts on that book Katelyn. I've never heard of that author. Also sorry to hear about your hockey team losing. What team do you root for?

I'm going with Hosed (Happy Cat, #1) by Pippa Grant . Mainly because the reviews says the hero has a pet raccoon named George Cooney...I MEAN how can I not haha

Plus just looking for something light given it's shaping up to be a stressful week at work. :)

message 91: by J (new)

J | 263 comments So, for this, I am going to read, Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire

Katelyn had given 5 stars for it. So, I will dig into it.

message 92: by Hayde (new)

Hayde | 207 comments I’ll be reading Darkfever

@Kitty, George Clooney! Really how can you not read it with that 😁

@Jans, let me know what you think about that book. I been thinking of adding it to my tbr.

@Katelyn, I never realized there were so many hockey series. I might have give one a try! Don’t really know much about hockey but sounds fun.

Columbus Blue Jackets are my team. I also root for Vegas, but they just got kicked out too ☹

Katelyn | 546 comments So of course I think I have changed my mind and the book I want to read definitely has more pages, but I was scrolling through my kindle and decided this sounded good.

Deking the Puck (The Sound #1) by Kathy Obuszewski

Hopefully it is good enough to pull me in and the page count won't even be a problem lol

I believe both characters the guy and the woman are hockey players.

message 96: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn | 546 comments How have teams already finished task 2!?

message 97: by Busy Right Meow (new)

Busy Right Meow (busyrightmeow) | 138 comments I think they're really strategic about their page counts. It looks like they're picking shorter books plus they got their task like a half day before us probably.

message 98: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn | 546 comments I have decided to read a shorter book. Why not knock out some of my shorter books why I have the chance. lol. I switched because the book I was reading felt like I was reading forever just to get 20 pages. I guess I will post what I finally decide to read when I do my completion post. How's everyone else doing?

message 99: by Busy Right Meow (new)

Busy Right Meow (busyrightmeow) | 138 comments Haha yikes if it already feels long within the first 20 pages it's probably good to switch. I'm about 60% done so hoping to wrap it up later tonight or tomorrow morning!

This book doesn't take itself too seriously so neither did I. The premise itself is so ridiculous that it would be hard to take it seriously even if I tried. Cassie the heroine is a virgin who has returned to her small town, Happy Cat, in Georgia to help out with her sister's sex toy factory because her sister has fled the country after catching her (now ex) husband cheating.....(with not a person). Cassie is reunited with her high school crush who has become an extremely hot firefighter (pun intended).

Now to my favorite character George....oh George ❤️. George is the tricycle riding, always hungry, ladies man (raccoon) of my dreams. George Cooney (🤣) is the single best character/raccoon/trash panda. I mean his owner, Ryan aka the hero, is great too but has nothing on George. I hope George can find his raccoon mate in the next book. I am invested in George's love life and I need to know!!!

This book is not a literary masterpiece by any means but it never claims to be. It's just a charming book about a small town and its colorful residents. Everyone has a lot of character and all the side characters were great too. It sets the stage well for the next books on Ryan's brothers as well which I am excited to read.

Highly recommend if you are looking for light read that goes quickly!
