32. Read 6 books with over 2500 ratings.

The number of ratings is on the main book page under the title. Selected books need to have over 2500 ratings, not reviews. Please include the number of ratings in your completion posts.

Yeah, 2500 ratings isn't all that bad. We'll likely fall into 6 books by accident before a few days have passed. :)

I haven't been doing as much for Turf Wars this time as I did for Australia because I got a little irritated with my team in week one. 😕 It just hasn't been a priority for me since then. I still log everything I'm reading and get as many points as possible, but...

message 220: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Oh that stinks. Last time I played turf wars or maybe it was towers, I can't remember I didn't have a good team on one of those and I almost quit. I think it was turf wars so I totally understand. We have a pretty solid team and it's been interesting to try to figure out what the other two teams are doing. I will say some of these .05 lists are not my thing. I've been doing more spell-outs this turf wars than before. They have been easier to fit all these other challenges that I got myself into.

That is unfortunate. I love my Turf War team. Everyone is so nice, helpful and super supportive of each other. I guess I will appreciate them a bit more tonight.

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I think all 4 of us might be on opposite teams. It was Cyndee that didn't like hers. Mine is pretty good and maybe slightly crazy....you just never know what's going to happen over there.

message 223: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks girls! Keri's on my team for Turf Wars so she saw it all go down. Basically, week 1, I posted in the chat multiple time that I was finishing up a book on the final day and wouldn't be able to check it in until the evening. And when I say multiple, I mean MULTIPLE. I had it in the SS so all I'd have to do is add the completion date. I'd post that I was finishing it up, then someone would ask if I was going to get it done. I'd reply again that YES, as I mentioned just 2 hours before, I will get it done. Then someone asked again, so I just started quoting my own previous post about getting it done. And then when I did get it finished that evening and went to add my completion date, they had completely deleted me from the SS. There were still HOURS left in the round. The whole thing just rubbed me the wrong way so it stopped being a priority. Sounds really petty when I talk about it now, but I was pretty irritated at the time. 😂

message 224: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I would've been irritated too. You should've only had to post once that you were working on it or maybe twice if your threads were running really fast and possibly get missed. Whoever deleted it sure wouldn't want to be on my team. I know our captains are like scrambling to get those last few points in. We like to fly in at the last minute. Like for reals. I will say this time the teams seem pretty balanced. That was one of the things I didn't like the last time I played. It just didn't seem as balanced sometimes.

I agree....I think the teams are pretty balanced and I think Sandi has done an outstanding job of adjusting Turf Wars each time so it's different, but the same. I keep saying I don't like the listopia's but then I find books on them that I can read.

I can't wait to jump into book two! This was a silly, sweet, and low angst "fake boyfriend" story. It was short but filled with a group of diverse, interesting characters. A nice little escape that had me grinning throughout. Spencer and Andrew are two lovable guys who are great together and I'm looking forward to seeing where their "true" relationship takes them.

The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper
The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper
Read: 10/11/20
Pages: GR Kindle ~ 320
How if fits: 6,976 ratings
Rating: 3.5 stars
I'm struggling with how to rate this one. I'm thinking a solid 3.5 stars rounded up. It wasn't quite what I expected because it really focused more on the fictional NASA Orpheus mission to Mars and the manipulation of modern media outlets, NASA's public relations objectives, and social media "influencer" content than on the relationship between Cal and Leon. And that's truly okay with me because that's the story Stamper set out to tell, but every point in this story seemed to be so "surface," for lack of a better explanation. I saw, rather than really felt, the content that should have packed the biggest emotional punches. When the space program experienced losses and setbacks, I should have felt the devastation. Cal and Leon had a charming chemistry that I would have liked to feel developed more. There was discussion of Leon's struggles with depression but I would have like to delve deeper. It was a nice, sweet story and entertaining enough to keep me reading, but it could have stood for more and had a profound, lasting impact had the emotional connections between the reader and the characters been rocketed up a bit (pun intended 😁).

I wasn't for sure how I felt about Mr. Aiden at the beginning of the book. I really liked Vanessa. She was so spunky. Aiden totally grew on me, especially after I realized he just coped differently than other people. I really liked this book. I will admit I would've been so mad at Zac if it was me training for a marathon and I walked in and he had a cast on. He may've ended up with more than the cast on. I think this is my first book of hers and now I'm going to need to read a couple more.

If you can, listen to them on audio. Callie Dalton does a fantastic job bringing her female characters to life. She's narrates ALMOST all of MZs books.

Keri | 212 comments Wow you guys were fast! I’m working on one, getting some reading in now actually.
My audio unfortunately doesn’t have enough ratings yet at only 1698 :/
I’m focusing only on the physical book unless I’m in the car so I get it done faster!!

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Lol, I listen to a mixture of audiobooks and read e-books. I listen on what some people call chipmunk speed. Minimum 2.75 but some books I listen at 3.0. John works every weekend and I'm off so if I don't have any plans I just sit around and read or listen to books on my errands and chores.

This is what I do. I have a long commute as well, so basically, I have an audiobook going for my commute and while I'm doing stuff around my house, then a paper or eBook for when I'm just chilling out.

message 240: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments Sounds similar to what I do but my commute is short right now and work days have been long :/

Less overtime ahead tho the rest of the month which should help.
I’m so sorry this round is taking me so long :/
I’ll be done for sure by Saturday but pushing to finish tomorrow. I keep falling asleep while reading today because I didn’t sleep well last night and work was exhausting.

bamaace83 | 1259 comments You're totally fine. We've all been there for sure. Audiobooks have totally saved me the past few weeks. We just have been super busy at work also. Unfortunately, this book does not qualify - it is nonfiction. Books need to be fiction to qualify for this challenge.

Here is what I'm going to do though - I'm going to assign the next task and will allow Keri's book to work for both tasks. As long as it qualifies for both! (Basically make sure whatever book is selected for the next task has over 2500 ratings.) 😊

message 248: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31598 comments Here is Task 6:

23. Each teammate reads a book that has been read by one of the RRRC moderators. No pass for this task.

There is no time limit or rating requirement for this task, the books selected only need to be on an RRRC moderator's shelves marked as read and rated. Please include a link to the moderator's review or read shelf in your completion post.

I am so sorry—I didn’t k lnow that rule! :/ 🤦🏼‍♀️
You don’t even know how much I appreciate your working with us on this—I had a very rough week and felt I was letting my team down taking so long since the two other books I had to read had under 2500 ratings!
Thank you for letting my next book double up and at least now I k ow the rule! That book doubled for another challenge where I needed to read true crime and I never thought to check that in this one since I don’t read nonfiction much!

message 250: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments There is no letting us down. We have all had those crazy weeks and we've all been there. I didn't know that rule either so it's good to know. Every now and then I'll read a nonfiction book. I messed up one of my challenges this weekend because of a page count technically so I was right there with you. Thanks MKat for working with us. It's been crazy lately.
