Keri | 212 comments I’ve finally started my Nov. 2019 one!
All my CR were not Nov so I had to finish a couple. The one I initially wanted hasn’t come from my library yet, so I’m doing one that’s a bit longer but it’s audio so I’m hoping to get through it faster. I’ll post as soon as it’s done

MountainKat | 31598 comments Just checking in with you all. I see Keri got a (big, almost a week big) late start on her book. I hope she finishes soon and doesn't leave you hanging like that going forward. Especially since it has been three days since the rest of the team finished this task.

message 103: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Oh my goodness. There are teams that are on their 5th task already. How are you doing with your November book Keri?

message 104: by [deleted user] (new)

I seem to be bad luck for missing teammates/partners lately. :(

message 105: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Hopefully Keri comes in strong soon and then depending on how the books fall maybe we can catch up some this week/weekend. We all read pretty fast so I think it’s possible. You’re not a jinx. I think real life has taken Frankie away and Keri was here not too long ago.

message 106: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments I’m so sorry I thought there wasn’t a deadline and I was in the middle of four other books that weren’t published in November, I just went with the flow and got on hold for one with that month.

This was not my intention at all, I didn’t feel I was leaving anyone hanging. This message kinda hurt my feelings, and I know it’s not from anyone on my actual team, but if you guys feel that way too and don’t want me on the team I don’t want to drag you down.

I thought it was fun and I normally am very on about finishing it was just hard to find a Nov. 2019 book I could get access to quickly, and harder since the book has to be started after the challenge is posted.
I’m about 40% through and should finish in the next couple of days.

message 108: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Oh no so sorry to hurt your feelings. I don’t think that at all. I have a bad bad habit of forgetting about challenges and messing up lots of teams so I don’t want you to think badly. And we don’t even want to go into detail about all the individual challenges that I sign up for and I get really really behind on. No worries at all. We will get there when we get there. I’ve definitely stepped back my reading since august and end up mad dashing past bedtime because of it. You just keep reading. I just didn’t know if real life took you away too. Real life keeps getting in the way of good reading times.

Keri | 212 comments Okay thanks Anna, sounds good! It was the MountainKat comment, but if you all are fine then I’m happy to stay on the team!!

I’m just not loving the book I’m reading either which doesn’t help :/
But I will finish! Got it on audio too now which is helping and moving me along faster. I’m actually listening right now haha

Keri | 212 comments I’m excited for this challenge and out planning ahead will also make future ones easier because we already have a semi-plan set up too :-) We’ll be able to make a come back!

I think I didn't explain it properly when we first talked. There's no set deadlines, we just try to get through as many tasks as possible.

Always tougher when you're reading a book that doesn't grab your interest. It always amazes me how long it can take to finish a "just okay" book as opposed to one that really grabs you when they have the same # of pages.

No worries, we definitely want you on the team and we will get better from here :)

Keri | 212 comments Powered through(with a bit of a sped up audio) and finished earlier than I thought I could!

message 115: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Awesome, I know what that's like with a not good book. That happened to me with the book I just finished on audio earlier today. It just wasn't that good. Then the other night I sped through a book that was super good that had more pages.

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

We're happy to have you with us Keri! We've got this now. :) And I totally sympathize on the rough book. Leslie and Anna just had to put up with me switching tasks for another challenge because I have been reading the first one I picked out since the 10th! It NEVER takes me that long to work through a book...and I'm still not done with it. 🙄

Going to check us in!!

Team Completion Post

0. As a team select your favorite month of 2019 (because 2020 basically SUCKS!) and each player reads a book initially published in that month. No pass for this task.

MountainKat | 31598 comments It wasn't my intention to hurt your feelings Keri. I was just checking because there had been no comment in your thread for several days and the first task was not yet completed. In team challenges, everyone needs to communicate and work together and you all seem to be doing well now. I did not mean to offend.

message 119: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31598 comments Here is Task 2:

2. Each player reads the first book in a series, can be same or different series - no pass for this task.

The books your choose need to be #1 or lower in a series listed on GR. Prequels count if they meet the other challenge requirements.

message 120: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Can someone confirm...with this challenge, do we have to wait until we are assigned the task before we can start reading? I think that's the rule. If not, I am just finishing a book that's first in a series. I suspect, I'll have to find another one though.

Leslie wrote: "Can someone confirm...with this challenge, do we have to wait until we are assigned the task before we can start reading? I think that's the rule. If not, I am just finishing a book that's first in..."

You're right. For this one we have start the book after the task is posted.

Leslie Cyndee wrote: "Leslie wrote: "Can someone confirm...with this challenge, do we have to wait until we are assigned the task before we can start reading? I think that's the rule. If not, I am just finishing a book ..."

No worries, I have a book I'm picking up at the library tomorrow that will work for this task. should have it done by Friday at the latest.

Keri | 212 comments MountainKat wrote: "It wasn't my intention to hurt your feelings Keri. I was just checking because there had been no comment in your thread for several days and the first task was not yet completed. In team challenges..."

Thanks, I appreciate the explanation. It just felt a little like an attack and I had commented within two days, which is not as frequent as my usual but my team knew I was reading so it just felt bad the way the comment was worded.

I’m glad we have it all cleared up though so we can focus back on the fun!

I hate that rule lol, it makes things so much harder since I may have just started a book for something else that would end up working!!

But I also totally get it or some people would take advantage and start books purposely for many of the tasks And then just leave a little left and finish everything super fast. At least that’s why I’m guessing we’d have to use that rule for this one :/

message 125: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments I have a couple options I can use for this task. I need to go find the book requirements because one is fairly short but would work best since I also need to read for FFF and neither of my options for that work for this. If the short one works I’ll finish in two days max.

message 126: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments Aha! I found it finally! Min 150 pages. My first pick is too short so I’ll do the other

It's good so far, but he is WORDY! This book did not need to be anywhere near 450 pages. I'm listening to the audio and he just spent 6 minutes describing the origins of a finger gesture akin to flipping someone off.

Yeah, it's been doing that since yesterday afternoon. It's been making challenge updates EXTREMELY annoying.

I should finish my first in a series either today or tomorrow just depending how much time I can read today.

COMPLETION POST

2. Each player reads the first book in a series, can be same or different series - no pass for this task.

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
Read: 9/27/20
Pages: GR Kindle ~ 448
How if fits: 1st book in The Nevernight Chronicles
Rating: 4 stars
Started off kinda slow. And Jay Kristoff is a wordy SOB. But he's got a great sense of humor so I'll forgive him for his lengthy asides that don't really lend to the plot at hand. Once Mia makes it to the Red Church to begin her training as a Blade, the story definitely picks up. Lots of interesting characters. I'll likely go on to the next in the series, but I'm not falling over myself to get to it immediately.

Please add the first edition Kindle page count - at least editing is working again! Thanks 😊

MountainKat | 31598 comments Here is Task 3:

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.

Please include your selected author in your completion posts.

(The randomizer likes the really low numbers for your team!)

message 146: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Did we agree to Colleen Hoover for #1?

message 147: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Was that the Hoover one or was it a different one? Cyndee only has one Hoover book left so I can’t remember when we said we would read her.

message 148: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments I’ll fix those page numbers when I get to a computer this morning. I forget all the little things between all these challenges.

message 149: by [deleted user] (new)

We can use Colleen Hoover for this one. If we saved her in case we get #51, I'd only have the one options, but since we can choose a different author if we get that task we'll be fine to use her here!
