Lea | 1631 comments Since non of the books that I found from September 19 was available on audio, l am going with a reread/listen for this one: Park Avenue Player. So it should go fairly quickly:-)

Lea | 1631 comments Completion post Task 1 book published September 19

Park Avenue Player
Park Avenue Player (A Series of Standalone Novels) by Penelope Ward

Page numbers: 428 pages (kindle Edition per GR)
Qualifies: First published 2 September 2019 Park Avenue
Date Completed: 15 September 2020
Rating/Review: 3,5 stars (5 stars first time I read it)

This is not a good book to reread, since part of story line is a twist on persons that you do not see coming the first time around.
But it is still a great story about others above yourselves, even though Bre does give away more of her own happiness than I think is reasonable, so that others do not suffer
I listened to the audio version and as always Andi Arndt and Sebastian York did a great job, their voices are made for audiobooks

Task 1: book published September 2019
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
Book: The Dutch House - Ann Patchett
Pages: 352 (Kindle, 1st ed per GR)
How it qualifies: Published September 24th 2019
Date Completed: 9/14/20
Rating: 4 stars

Review: I had mixed feelings about this book. The narrator of the story is Danny and he purports throughout to be telling the story of his sister Mauve, but it is really about the Dutch House and the effect it has on 3 generations of Conroys and the family who originally built the house. The story of the dysfunctional family is fascinating but obsessive, like constantly picking at a sore tooth rather than having it taken care of. I found it engrossing at times as we learned about what happens to each of the characters, heartfelt as we see Danny and Maeve's relationship deepen, and resolute as people begin to accept their actions and their impact on others. But each character is flawed and borderline likable; you can see why they are that way and even their motivations but that doesn't make you like them. Maeve was the closest for me but I still wanted to shake her at times. What didn't fit for me was the father who at times seemed aware of what was happening around him and at others to be blind. One moment he's correcting a negative action behind the scene and the next he's caving. Yet he is described as a money man who knew the legal ropes. Some things just didn't fit.

Crazy Rich Cajuns (Boys of the Bayou, #4) by Erin Nicholas
Book: Crazy Rich Cajuns by Erin Nicholas
Pages: 260 Kindle edition
How it qualifies: Published 9/30/19
Date Completed: 9/24/20
Rating: 3 stars

Review: Oh this book. Overall it ended up not being a terrible book but it took forever for me to read. It wasn't even a long book! I loved the flirtation that went on with the main characters but Kennedy was a bit too much for me. At one point she was talking to one of her friends who warned her about office romances. Dating a co-worker is precarious. Kennedy made some long winded speech about how Bennett was different and they were mature enough to still maintain a professional appearance even when they were no longer dating. What a bunch of crap! I've worked with many people who have dated and their relationship dissolved. There are hurt feelings. Bad things said about one another. Often, one or the other either have to find a new job or a new position/shift to not have to see the other day in and day out. It never works.

There were some funny moments within the book. I actually did like Bennett and Kennedy's banter although I might not recommend this book to those who find strong language offensive as Kennedy's favorite word seems to be the F word.

I know what you mean Lea. I'm so disappointed that Audible Escape is going away. I can't decide if I'm going to go with Audible Plus or not. Right now the AE option is at a reduced price with my Kindle Unlimited. I'm not sure if AP will be reduced as well. I know we can get 3 free months of AP as a gift to us AE members but only until October 31st. I'm going to get the 3 month trial at the end of October to use the AE as long as possible.

My book is also on audio from Escape.

Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas

Task: 7. Read 4 books that are stand alones.
Finished 9/29/20
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: I normally really like Lisa Kleypas but this book just didn't do it for me. Too much sex. Not enough building a credible romance. We learned about the hero's touching backstory through a third party resulting in a complete lack of connection between me and someone who could have been a potential book boyfriend. Every conflict or disagreement the couple had resulted in them having sex. So disappointing.

Review: Kaylee Ryan is a new author for me so was not sure what to expect. The book has a really high rating but does not always ensure that it is to my liking.
But I really enjoyed this book. It is written so really connect with the main charaters and their story. The story is all about coming out a bade situation and finding love but also about finding freinds and creating your own version of family.

How it Fits: book is stand alone
Finished: 9/29/20
Rating: 4 stars

Review: Cussy Mary Carter is the last known Blue person in Eastern Kentucky. The rare family condition makes her skin blue and darkens when she is agitated in any way. Treated in the hill country as Colored and shied away from she spends most of her time on her Back Pack Library job which she got by applying to the Project administration avoiding the local library heads. She has 4 routes each week with one day for administrative tasks. The routes can be dangerous at times physically and by human aggression occasionally. She really cares for the people she serves and is drawn to a new man on the route. However, the story includes violent incidents involving unions and miners, marital rape and attempted rape, prejudicial violence and suicide. This sounds grim but it is all in the context of a hard life in Appalachia and there are beautiful stories as well. Highly recommended.

MountainKat | 31598 comments Since I'm not waiting for corrections - yet, here is Task 3:

12. Read a book recommended to you by a teammate - no pass for this task.

You can do the recommendations however you wish - to the group, to each individual, to the person below you on the list or ?? - it's up to you. If you want to provide a specific shelf to pick from, it needs to have a minimum of 10 books on it.

message 90: by Lea (new)

Lea | 1631 comments Hi team
Should we do individual recommendations to one person ? Maybe to next person on the group list?
Or alternatively all make a shelf with 10-15 books that we recommend for everybody?

Shandrea if you could put something together to recommend to Lea that would be great. She's super open to trying new authors so even if your book preferences are a bit different she's bound to find something great.
